Movin' Personalities

Any news on when Sandusky will bring in the on-air personalities at Movin'? I haven't tuned in longer than 1 minute at a time in weeks- just a quick tune-in now and then to see if they're still automating or if they've wisened up. The novelty of a new station is wearing very thin. Time for another small surge of listeners by bringing in the personalities. It's their only long-term hope. Bring in the right people and you could keep me listening. Bring in the wrong people & I'm gone for good.

They've posted job openings for Movin' jocks, so I'm guessing they're coming soon. No actual date has been announced yet as far as I know.

When they hire live voices, they will be just that. The station is overly structured (whether it's effective is another story), and it is doubtful there will be much, if any 'personalities' -- the infrastructure of the station and format won't allow it.

Sandusky was recently thought of as one of the best places to work in town; a small independent operator that did not have to answer to shareholders and truly treated people right. In the last three years, the turnover in the building has been unbelievable starting with Murdock, Hunter and Alice...I was told by a source in the building that even the director of HR left due to internal problems two months ago. In the last four weeks, they have fired three out of four of their morning shows, in addition to the entire airstaff at KLSY. It will be interesting to see what type of talent is just itching to work for King Marc and Sandusky! Is radio the only business where companies can treat their employees horribly and still have people clamoring to work for them?

I am going to have to disagree with you here. You all forget who is calling the shots with this station, Lisa Adams. And from what I hear, she is calling the shots. She has a history of training from within and paying a high premium for creativity. When jocks come on to MOViN, they will bring all personality to the station, and not just be voices. If that is what they were looking for, don't you think that they could have found some that were more than acceptable by now??? I think that this station is going to supprise everyone on this board, except for a select few that are actually giving it a shot. We all complain that radio is getting redundant and stale, but then when someone goes out on a limb to be inovative and try something different, you shoot it down before it gets off the ground!!! Nothing would succeed in this market according to some of you. And those that want to compair this to KBTB and KBKS(in the beginning) need to actually pay attention to the station. KBTB was not thought out, was exclusive to R&B from the 80's and early 90's and nothing was put into promotions, marketing, or imaging. KBKS wasn't much better in the beginning, a better music library, a little more money thrown at it to get it off the ground, but untill it evolved they didn't do much with it. MOViN is putting a lot of thought, Research, and creativity into everything that they do. The music is based in 80's & 90's R&B but has a lot of currents and recurrents, and brings in some more dance type hits that were hot locally in the main timeframe that they are working in. We know that they spent a boatload on a media buy for their ad, and from what I have heard, it is making an impact and getting noticed in a good way. Promotions is still a little weak but they have just hired a new promo director that starts here I think in a week or so. After she starts, expect them to be out there and in everyones faces to get noticed. I think that 4 books from now, all of you will be saying "it won't last" just as you are saying now and then 8 and 12 books from now you will all be saying "looks like it worked after all". 8)As for the Sandusky group as a whole, they needed to get shook up!!! I think that it will all be for the better for the cluster in the end.

You think Lisa Adams is calling the shots? Do you really believe that? Check all the trade publications. The beat-my-chest quotes were coming from Alan Burns and Marc Kaye. Lisa Adams being the PD was barely a blip on the radar when you read those articles. Not to mention Alan Burns is trying to make this format into a sellable commodity. Do you really think Alan Burns is going to sit on the sidelines and let Lisa Adams drive this inaugural format with his name written all over it?On another note -- she might be everything you claim she is in working with 'personalities,' but if she treats staff on a similar level as she did with some of the outgoing KLSY staff, she'll lose credibility and respect real fast.

Right. So where are the flurry of copycats across the country?Look, radio groups in Seattle looked into things like 'Jammin Oldies' and other rhythmic variations. There's a reason other stations haven't flipped to the format -- you figure it out yourself as to why. THAT'S why some people on this board are skeptical about the success of Movin.

So, the ends justify the means? Yes, Sandusky needed to do something with 92.5, but it was consecutive dumb decisions on their part that completely imploded on them.

So basically it's possible that KUBE and KQMV will both be competing for the same (C-89) "farm club"??!!
How about the other way around, with KQMV trying to entice KNHC and KUBE staffers to "move" over to Movin' 92.5. Could happen.

----------How did Lisa Adams treat the old staff from KLSY bad? She gave the am show notice that May 1st would be their last show, only to have them leak the info out on their myspace pages, and then come on here and give deatiled info of the flip.. after that they were told not to return, and that makes HER BAD? Has anyone seen any overnights regarding Movin's numbers to date? If so, can you give us any ups or downs regarding their reach and impact, particularly related to KUBE and KBKS?I would think they've made enough buzz just on this board that they are beoming dangerous! For how long will be the question.....you can't run enough TV commercials to bring your image around after people have decided otherwise....just look at Jack FM !

Surely you can't be serious. 92.5 "dangerous" because of a lot of message board activity? Thanks for the laugh of the week!

Arbitron has yet to weigh in on Movin'. The station debuted on May 1st, 5 days after the first phase of the Spring '06 book ended. The Phase II trend will show their first month but that won't be released until June 29th.

It wasn't just the morning show. Ask around and find out yourself-- I'm not going to breach confidential communication.

The Spring Book ends this Sunday, June 21st, and the Summer Book starts June 29th, so that newly-hired Promotions Director has gotta get (excuse the pun) Moovin'http://www.rrconline.org/arbitron/surveySchedule.phpWe have a short Summer here in Seattle, so let's crack that whip and get going. Sandusky has an opportunity here to create one non-stop radio party, heavy on personality and heavy on showy promotion. Maybe steal away somebody at KUBE.If they don't get it together by Seafair, they're absolutely toast. But I want them to succeed, but we've had such lame radio here for such a long time that I am not holding my breath.I want overconfident boss radio "I own this town" personalities coupled with non-stop party action..... Is that so wrong? ;D

Given the Washington DC boys and girls think they have made major headway with making "indecency" ten times more effective, I think EVERYONE needs to look out. I haven't heard any DECENT programming in many many years....

Let's see here - they posted the Movin' openings about two weeks ago. Hire an entire staff and have them on the air by the middle of July? Uh-huh.Toast? Try burnt toast.

How could you possibly know that it was the KLSY morning show that leaked info on this board? Even a brand new PD like Adams has more sense than to tell an outgoing morning show about the plans for the future. I doubt they or any of the staff that was fired had any idea whatsoever what the new station was going to sound like! These secrets are usually hard to keep for long, but in most cases, the staff in place has no idea. Where are you getting your information? And by the way...Marc Kaye is the program director at all of the Sandusky stations and has been for seven years...the people that sit in the PD's offices are simply implementors of his plan. Ask anyone who has ever programmed under Mr. Kaye at any of his stations here or anywhere in his career.
