I really do like movin, i like the genre of music they play, i could do with out the current stuff as much as they play it. I think they really dont need to play so much of of newer stuff.
I think that they need to play MORE currents (although perhaps not as often as the currents they have now) in order to break up the monotony of hearing the same classics so many times. For example, that newer song by JoJo ("Little Too Late"?) would be a good current to have in rotation (although I don't know how much longer it can be considered a "current".) "Fergalicious" (and "London Bridge") is another one that's missing but would seemingly fit in very well.
The few currents they have in rotation, and some of the recurrents, are being played WAY too much...examples are "Sexyback" by Justin Timberlake, "Buttons" by Pussycat Dolls, "Golddigger" by Kanye West and "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira.
Expanding the classics library wouldn't hurt either. And it's not like they would have to play obscure classics. Here are some examples - all of these were hits on Power 92, Y95 and/or KZZP (both the original and "104-7 ZZP") - and at least some of these have been played as recurrents or flashbacks on specialty shows on numerous stations over the years. I don't think these are on the playlist - if they are, I certainly haven't heard them -
"Hold You Tight" - Tara Kemp
"Every Little Thing I Do" - Soul 4 Real
"Mr. Vain" - Culture Beat
"Knockin Da Boots" - H-Town (?)
"The First Time" - Surface
"You're My One and Only" - Seduction
"Gotta Tell You" - Samantha Mumba
"Close 2 U" and "I Wanna B With U" - Fun Factory
"Dance With Me" - Debelah Morgan
"P.A.S.S.I.O.N" - Rhythm Syndicate
"Most Girls" - Pink
"Do Anything" - Natural Selection
"Before You Walk Out of My Life" - Monica
"Take Your Time", "Sexual Healing", and "Fat Boy" - Max-a-Million
"Move It Like This" - K7
"Someone to Love" - Jon B featuring Babyface
"Live and Learn" - Joe Public
"Don't Wanna Fall in Love" - Jane Child
"Back to the Hotel" - N2Deep
And what about looking beyond just one or two hits from certain artists or groups?
For example, they play "I Wanna Sex You Up" & "All For Love" by Color Me Badd...why not "I Ador Mi Amor" as well?
Same for Pebbles - "Girlfriend" and even "Mercedes Boy" (I think) get airplay, but "Giving You the Benefit" does not.
With Paula Abdul, "Straight Up" and "Coldhearted" are in rotation, but I don't think the same can be said about "The Way That You Love Me" or "Rush Rush".
I'll hear "Dance Floor" by Zapp but not "Doo Wah Ditty" (and I think the latter was a bigger hit than the former!)
Toni Braxton gets airplay with "Breathe Again" but not "He Wasn't Man Enough for Me".
I've heard "If I Ever Fall in Love" by Shai but not "Comforter" or "Baby I'm Yours".
"Sweat" by Inner Circle is played too much, yet "Bad Boys", which isn't played, is better-known song, primarily because of its status as the theme song for the long-running television series COPS, which airs on KSAZ, (maybe still) KUTP and multiple cable networks.
"Don't Walk Away" by Jade is on there but "I Wanna Love You" is not.
They love "Head to Toe" by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam but not "Can You Feel the Beat".
Also missing are some of the big hits from some of the teen-pop acts of the late 90's and the start of this decade...Spice Girls, 'N Sync, Backstreet Boys. Yes, these songs are ultra-cheesy, but this station isn't afraid to play other one-hit wonders...so why shy away from the aforementioned artists? They could be in VERY light rotation (i.e. no more than once or twice a week for each song) -- but again, at least that would break up the monotony somewhat.
I think a large part of the problem is that (I assume) the person who's in charge of the playlist isn't familiar with this market...they haven't lived here and experienced the many permutations of CHR radio over the years to know what songs were hits around here.
The only down side to listing to movin, is i have almost every song they play on my ipod that is in my car, so i really dont need to listen, but still like the station, it is refreshing to have it here in PHX
Your iPod collection sounds very much like mine. I am in total agreement with you here. I was listening to the iPod most of the time until MOViN' arrived. For a radio nerd, there is just something special about hearing the music you like on the radio...maybe it's the realization that the music we like is being made available to the masses (although availability to the "masses" has a different meaning for MOViN' than it does for the South Mountain powerhouses...)
And some personality...a human voice or two between the songs that's not "Brad" or "Tasia"...would also help break up the monotony of hearing the same songs and the same sweepers/jingles.
