Moving on in to Philly

As expected the owners of 97.5 FM WTHK have just applied to move the transmitter into Philadelphia as the final part of the puzzle that changed WTHK to a Burlington licensed station. The application puts the stick right next to the transmitter for 106.1 so city-grade coverage over most of metro Philly will be possible. The new 97.5 will be highly directional to protect several stations but Philly proper will gain another strong signal.

Oh good, cause I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to hear yet another "Get the Led Out" show. I would think a "specialty" show like that would not be at prime time on a Friday evening. They better step their programming up just as much as their signal. Oh, and I caught a portion of a lame "live" spot from a brand new tex-mex joint yesterday where a female jock was rambling for about 45 seconds and then forgot to give the actual physical location. Brilliant!

Please, not on that tower

I hope they do not intend to use the WJJZ tower, which I mentioned a few weeks ago, was in poor shape. I doubt it can hold anymore bays or antennas. "timber"

I doubt they'll keep the Classic Rock format with MGK and MMR around.

As soon as this is approved, WTHK will be sold, and the new owner will put something else on.

Nassau will then use the money to continue financing their expansion in New England and Mid-Atlantic small markets.

Many people have been saying that Nassau is going to sell, but what is this based on? Has Nassau given ANY indication that this is what they want to do? Has a Nassau insider ever been on this board telling people this?

No, but it would be very out of character for them to operate a big-market station, especially a standalone. Over the past couple years, Nassau's been spending a ton of money buying small-market clusters where they can dominate the market. They haven't seemed at all interested in competing with big station groups in the big markets.
