I'm moving to Spokane this week, I'll be one of JJ's neighbors.
So far the dial over here has been interesting, I'll miss the Seattle radio flavor, but i scored a nice deal over here working in a restraunt.
Im going to wait a while before I think about the radio biz. It seems a little rough around the edges these days. One of my friends back in sumner landed a gig in Seattle and he said it was cool, so we'll see. I'm going to be around so I'll keep up with whats going on by reading this and talking to him.

PEACE!

Best Stuff In the Spokane area

Local Radio:

KYRS-LP

KZZU

KISC

KCDA

Cheap Eats:

Sonnenberg's Deli (Best hot dogs in Spokane!)

Grocery Outlet (a chain store you can find in many WA towns, but always cheap.)

Thadeus T. Thudpucker's (Spokane's best chicken fried steak.)

Just Like Home Buffet (Awesome all-you-can-eat!)

Snyder's Bakery (We still make a trip over to Spookaloo each year in November to buy their stuffing mix and rolls for our Thanksgiving feast and besides, fall is gorgeous in Spokane.)

Zip's (Papa Joe Burgers with Zip's Tartar Sauce...MMMM!! I'm hearing a Zip's is being planned in Lynnwood. So soon, you can all taste what I have been raving about up here for years...)

Rosauer's Supermarkets (their house brand crunchy cheese puffs taste WAAY better than crunchy Chee-to's.)

Pizza Pipeline (Super cheap lunchime slices, best Pepperoni and cheese pizza in Spokane!)

Baldy's (on the EWU campus, Cheney)

Gatto's Pizza (Cheney)

Lenny's (Cheney)

Must Have Stuff:

Zanie's (like Spencer's)

Boo Radley's (like Zanie's, but much hipper.)

4,000 Holes (second hand record/CD shop specializing in Beatles stuff)

The White Elephant (a toy AND firearms shop. Also sells fishing and camping stuff and factory surplus)

Assorted head shops in downtown Spokane (they change a lot)

With the internet, you can still tune in to some Puget Sound stations (disconnect those crummy little desktop speakers and hook your computer into your stereo for something to REALLY rock the house with!)

Wish more Spokane stations would return their web feeds...

Re: Best Stuff In the Spokane area

You forgot about The Longhorn Barbecue -- unless you head to Auburn or the Puyallup Fair. Players and Spectators is a great sports bar. Downtown Coeur'd Alene is really cool now. Western Washington does not have a fast food chain as good as Zips. There are a lot of good ski resorts within reasonable driving distance. Gatto's Pizza in Cheney is a great choice for pizza and calzones; another good choice is Pete's Pizza - three locations. Rosauer's in O.K.; I like Yoke's Pack and Save better. Another good deli is Lindaman's on the South Hill.

I do think the music stations in Spokane are quite good. I had a week to check them out recently. I am not a fan of the morning shows.

Bummer Larry! They tore down Thudpuckers a couple of years ago -- I believe it's a parking lot now. Always good mullet watching in the bar!

You're kidding.

I was last there in 2001. Haven't really looked for it since, but writing about it made me crave Thudpucker's chicken fried steak again!

Wish they'd at least give out the recipie for it if they're out of business for good.....

If memory serves (from last Christmas) it's a new 3-4 story commercial building. Looks much nicer than the old Thuds, but lacks some of the panache.

I'll have to check it out -- I'll be back over to visit family next month.

A good place for a TASTY burrito -- Slick Rock Burrito downtown -- they have one on Manito too.

Anybody know if they tore down the old KKZX/KUDY building on the Palouse? The good ol' days..

Re: Best Stuff In the Spokane area

I was there for just one week in June. I found myself listening to 94.5 and thought their afternoon show was quite good. Otherwise I just channel surfed and found nothing else particularly memorable.

CAN ANYBODY FIND ME THAT AWESOME CHICKEN-FRIED STEAK RECIPIE??!!

Oh well, I remember Senor Froggy's for my tacos and burritos.

And Chicken-N-More on Sprague downtown? (Spokane's only soul food. BEST FRIED CHICKEN IN SPOKANE!!)

I loved the simple pleasures of Spokane. But I wished there was more variety on the radio like we get here in Skagit County. Even though the internet will someday work out all that annoying royalties crap so we can all hear EVERY radio station in the US on the web. Which is when I will probably return to Spokane (the company I work for has a couple fields out there and they have suggested it, but somehow, I'm just happier living the laid back life in Skagit County, being closer to family and all...)
