MP3 Radio

:)I am confused why 98.5 is an issue. Charlotte's NASCAR racetrack in Concord uses 91.1 FM to simulcast their christmas music during November, December and January. That station location has a BBN station{supposedly a LPFM} broadcasting sometimes very clearly from South Carolina in Concord,NC. NASCAR has has been doing several years now. Why has that not been considered a problem?

Maybe:

1: it's NASCAR!
2: Nobody listens to BBN

??? :-\

WYFG at 91.1 FM is 100,000 watts. And with WMUU gone, they should be getting a lot more listeners, at least when they play music. Which, unfortunately, BBN is not always doing.

98.5 MP3 Radio is transmitting today. I had to do a double-take because it made me think it was Friday. But I remembered seeing the garbage truck earlier in the day.

I was at the corner of N. Tryon and Sugar Creek. Excellent reception until I got on I=85 Southbound. The signal quickly faded, which is unusual. Mixed in the signal was some Top40 Radio Station. I assumed it was the Cloud Cover to blame for the lack of signal in places where I'm used to receiving it.

So if anyone is headed to Center City, CLT, be sure and tune in. Steve.

Sssshhh!
Remember it is just a “flea powered” station and there are some days that the fleas just don’t push the signal very fare. Like myself their getting older. :D

It’s called Tropo or Tropospheric Ducting. It occurs in the hot summer months and not in the winter. It can literally wipe out lower powered FM stations at its peak. In the past I’ve picked up FM stations from as far away as Texas and their signal was as strong as the local stations. The station you hearing is probably either WTFM, Magic 98.5 in Columbia or B98.5 out of Atlanta.

The Tropo maps on this site are extremely accurate.

I think it’s something all good “radio geeks” ought to know about.

I know... I just had a McCafe at McDonalds off of central.

Love the oldies as always.

Too bad the high gas prices are starting to kill me. May have to cut down on my driving soon...
