kzon has been 'jamz' for 4 books. kkfr has been 'power' for 4,000 books. after 4 books...they are tied 18-34 w/ jamz holding a commanding lead in 18-34 cume.

that's why you changed.

facts brotha...

[EDIT-trademark concerns]

Maybe I missed something, so I went back and pulled up the numbers. M-Sun, 6a-12m, 18-34 share rank (sorry, can't post numbers due to Arb rules);

In the last trend - KKFR #1, KZON #5
In the Summer book - KKFR #2, KZON #6

And KKFR beat KZON in cume in the book and the last trend (2nd to 4th). If your PD Waters told you were winning, he lied. But don't take my word for it, anyone want to verify my rankings are accurate?

And if that's why KKFR changed, why did KZON change 3 hours later?

KZON was on air yesterday with that slogan actually

In the Last Book KKFR had a higher cume 18-34 by 1,500 people. BUT 12+ KZON#4 Kills KKFR #9 by close to 45k people. 12-34 or 18-49 KZON wins.

Too bad people don't buy advertising based solely on cume. Oh wait, you aren't number 1 in that either.

So the ranks were accurate, since you didn't correct them?

Those ranks are indeed correct. However for the month of October KKFR has already dropped to #4 and the next trend will drop their biggest month. That one book is also from when KKFR was "Where Hip Hop Lives"
Like everyone else is saying, what reason do listeners have now to fight through the static?
Cume may not matter much to you at the moment but it will once PPM is here.

Funny that you would accuse KZON of "copying"
All KKFR has ever been is a copycat of KPWR in Los Angeles
Now they want to copy a Hot97 logo and a KZON slogan that started yesterday

Do you think we all forgot about the famous leaked email where KKFR will steal whatever they think might be an advantage to them and the audience will instead think it was stolen from them? ::)

You're right advertisers dont buy based soley on cume nor due they soley buy based on ranking. They buy on a multitude of factors, most which are conencted to the core audience and their income and spending habits. JamZ listeners rank higher in listener income and spending habits. Probably based upon the fact that they reach listeners in the East Valley and Scottsdale that isnt a hot bed for KKFR.

KKFR's core crowd of South Phoenix and Westside listeners (all the signal covers clearly) isn't highly sought after. Not many advertisers look for 24 year old 35k and under listeners. Hard Core Hip Hop niche market isnt where the money is and doesnt look favorable in PPM. probably all reasons Power is attempting to re brand itself.

We all know kzon is atrain wreck for u don't look much firther then to see how much staff they have fired and they hire has beens from yesteryear!!!Jamz will not last you can tell by whats going on there a flip is in the offing kids!!! ;D

Never have I witnessed such a heated discussion over who gets to boast about being the most #13th! (Because that's where KZZP is overall) followed by "Power" (about 2 watts of it) at 14th and KZON at 16th. In a format that's losing audience.

One station used to be the predominant force in Phoenix radio in the 80s, one station finally had a little something going for it in the 90s and the other (Jamz) wants to sound like it's in the 90s. The bottom line is; these stations are all (quite sadly) fighting for a relatively small audience and stuck at the very minimum 10 years in the past.

The fact you can only quote 12+ means you know very little about how radio works.

Both stations are in the top 10 12+ cume in Phoenix
Both stations are in the top 5 18-34
The total CHR share in the market is greater than any other format.

The other discussions on this board are about stations with little to no audience, and/or impact on Phoenix. Get your facts straight.

Many stations copy what the successful larger sister station (or even former sister station) in a nearby state is doing by taking some elements of what they do and making it their own thing as well. overall, it's a pretty smart move. Kiss FM and 103.9 Arizona's Party Station has also done this a bit in the past. KVVA Super Estrella 107.1 has even done it. I can't tell who JamZ is imitating, or if they are imitating anyone, but doing this is a smart move. As far as "#1 hit music" for Power? I have no idea who thought to do this. It just sounds awkward without certain hits being played. However, I wonder with all the changes going on in music these days, how long will other stations be able to keep the "where hip hop lives" slogan before it starts sounding weird? Soon hip hop will be just like rock. Still there, but no longer the biggest thing. Things are changing... Top 40 and rhythmic is the safest way to go today, but not every station is going to win in the end. Someone better flip to... well, I don't see any room for anymore old school either, so.... I'm not sure exactly who, but someone needs to pray because they will not be around by the end of 2012, and I think I'm being generous by saying 2012. I really want to say 2010 or even by this time next year.
