Very interesting talk on the Mississippi and Arkansas boards. Jerry Russell is apparently in court this week for the lawsuit I was talking about regarding the non-payment on the Pine Bluff stations.

I hope they take every one of your stations Jerry Russell.... They are all pathetic excuses for airspace. Give them to a real operator who will do it right...

The stations that Russell owns are the following:

KOTN-AM 1490 (Talk)
KZYP-FM 99.3 (Urban AC)
KCLA-AM 1400 (Gospel ala SGN)
KPBQ-FM 101.3 (Country)

Russell is CEO of MRS Ventures which started out as Community Broadcast Group back in 1993. He acquired KZEY-AM in July of '93. Five months later he brought by way of an LMA agreement, KMHT-AM/FM Marshall, TX. Shortly afterwards, he purchased KEGG in Daingerfield. Halfway into the second quarter of 1995, he discontinued KEGG over a program discontinuance of Rush Limbaugh (the strangeness of this programming in Daingerfield was urban with Rush in middays-talk about a joke!) which consists of mostly listener complaints and witchhunts (that rarely happens). I do not know as to what the outcome of his company's fate will be. But if REAL owners step up and do everything right in the long run, it will be a great miracle come true.<P ID="signature">______________

LOL, I told you...

I can not believe it is going down the way I predicted it would back in 2003. I was on the ground when KYYK 98.3/KNET 1450 in Palestine, TX was repossessed from MRS Ventures. I wanted to work for the company that eventually bought KYYK, but they would not touch me with a 10 foot pole because I had MRS on my resume. In fact, my credibility with most East Texas stations was burned because of Russell's reputation. In fact, had it not been for KWRW taking a chance on me, My career would have been over much quicker.

Things at the MRS stations were always breaking down, and Russell always blamed the staff (namely, me) for the problems. (Like It was my fault lightning struck the KNET Tower.) He would say that I "lacked leadership skills".

The only good thing I can say is that he paid good salaries...if you were in his good graces.

Russell, two of your "flagship" stations are off the air, you are in legal trouble in Pine Bluff, and some of your mississippi properties are dark. "I call that lack of leadership."

Sounds like you need "some (explicative omitted) money!"

Wow, he's ticked people off in three states.

BASH MRS

This meeting of the BASH RMS will now come to order .First we will hear from the Honorable Federal Prosecutor conducting the "Hot Check" choir.
This will be followed by Jack Russell son of the alleged owner with his presentation of "leadership skills in a fantasy world"
The Pine Bluff city council will then follow with a formal de-annexation of the radio properties of MRS,based on the notion that is there is no taxable value ,because their is no property value.
Finally Mr. Russell will use his old Rudy Vallee megaphone to shout out the call letters K W R D at the top of each hour until further notice, in compliance with FCC regulations.
We will open the floor for "digustions"after we listen to the choir.

Things that disgust me about MRS Ventures or *ahem* Messed-up, Ridiculed and STUPID Ventures is that 1. They do pay you very well. 2.The CEO (Russell) uses these stations to generate revenue 3. Never cares about the programming aspects of any of the stations (KZEY included)including philosophies (he always has his own). 4. He's the Saddam Hussein of radio in which all stations he has brought and literally "kills his own people that he hired" except the members of his loyal "regime" (the suck-ups who will remain nameless). 5. As musicsweep describes from some of the above posts, blames technical things on certain individuals in charge (i.e., Russell is the flypaper and the blamee is all over it [or is it the other way around?]). 6. He claims that he's a "broadcaster." Yeah, right! What stations beside the public service department at KLTV was he part of? Has he ever programmed a radio station? Or know any technical areas at all? 7. Engineering. If they are not 100% satisfactory with him, he runs them off. The sad part is that he thinks engineers in some parts of the area are less reliable. Bull! Radio engineers go to technical schools to know about these things and do them right the first time everytime--unless it breaks down. For him, he just doesn't care. There is absolutely no restoration in any of the stations he's now running. The truth really hurts now, isn't it, Jerry? 8. The previous owners of these once great stations made a very critical mistake. Where are your heads at, man? Your legacy of great radio from each respectable state are being stepped and crapped on by the Great Dictator. For that, he would make Hitler shave off his moustache! Just like the falling down of Saddam's statue, Russell's will do the same likewise.

Truth is, I don't hate Jerry. I just don't like his arrogance and his disappreciation of the ones that helped put the stations up for him. He never appreciates anything that announcers who have passionately been with these stations the real essence of what makes a great radio station. Truth is, he never appreciates talented radio people. We're peans to him. Just like I always say, God is going to see through all of that and hopefully when the winds of change come where he is no longer in power, real radio people will rejoice once again at the fall of the Dictator!

These are just my rants and I do hope that the Craig and Dawn Eastham in Pine Bluff,AR will have their stations back so that they won't have to make that same mistake again. At least the late Buddy Deane can rest comfortably<P ID="signature">______________
