MSNBC anchor refuses to cover Paris Hilton

MSNBC anchor Mika Brzezinski snapped during Joe Scarborough's show this morning. She refused to cover Paris Hilton. She did everything short of storming off of the set, including ripping the script (after attempting to light the script on fire) and getting into a fight over the Iraq Study Group.

I hope they name her the new president of NBC News!

I remember her when she worked here at FOX and then CBS in Hartford. Good for her! :)

Kudos to Mika for displaying journalistic integrity over tabloid entertainment.

What was interesting is that despite Mika's refusal to read the Paris Hilton story the first time, her producer continued to submit copy to her throughout the morning to read on other newscasts.

It was the third time that set her off to the point she got out of her chair and fed the story to the shredding machine.

Thats awesome. Paris has been in the news to long and its not news its something for the E! network to cover. Anyways Im glad she refused to read that story. I also hope she doesn't get into trouble or fired from MSNBC/NBC News. If she does I think NBC News will lose viewers. What does everyone else think if they fired Mika?

You go, GUUURRRRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLL! With that level of journalistic integrity she could turn around MSNBC in a heartbeat.

Seriously though, you don't diss a Baltic woman like Mika. My mom and I were extremely close....but I was always very careful to not upset her! It was funny seeing how Joe Scarborough didn't quite know how to handle Mika! Excellent!

Don't worry; Mika will be safe, not because of the rightness or wrongness of her actions, but because it will make for positive publicity for the Peacock.

Sure, there are a lot of people who want to see the Paris/Anna Nicole coverage; if there weren't, the networks wouldn't keep doing it. However, there's also a sizable group that not only doesn't want it but is fed up with it and turning away when it comes on TV. Mika's moment will be heralded as standing up for "real" journalism [which she probably was] and will get her into lots of other media's stories. Someone will even start the rumor that CBS will bring her back to replace Katie Couric. It will make for lots of positive spin for NBC News and [much needed] exposure for MSNBC.

The only sad part is that, ultimately, it won't lead to any substantive change in anyone's editorial policies.

That's a great video. Sure, she would not have been able to get away with that if she were reading the news in another part of the day aside from the morning, which seems a bit more free-wheeling. But good for her. About time people in the 'news media' screamed 'enough already'.

I don't blame her. Good for her. I can't believe a STUPID individual like Paris Hilton is monitored over a short jail sentence. Gee, I wouldn't get that treatment from the press, just like any other average individual. I am shocked when I turn on the TV to hear she got out of prison...WOW big deal. She stepped out of a building. These tabloid reporters should be ashamed of themselves having to report this garbage. Mika was obviously fed up on reporting "nothing". Hilton is just another person in this world, and tracking her every move is not fair.

CNN's Lou Dobbs has been refusing to cover the story period. This is a non-story as much as Paris Hilton is nobody. This story isn't going to get any publicity for NBC or MSNBC.

I agree MSNBC needs publicity but first it needs a good product to publicize. It currently lacks greatly in the category.

OK, I'll be the odd man out. Is this a case of not giving the public what they want for the sake of someone's idea of "integrity"? Seems as though she's doing an intentional disservice to their viewers.

On the other hand - if Mika's bit was all staged (could be, lighter was had pretty easily there) - then there was absolutely no level of so-called "integrity".

I'm just sorry that as of right now, it has only 2,162 hits. It deserves a MILLION!

Paris Hilton

Good for her. It's too bad Bill O'Reilly, who constantly bashes
MSNBC and other networks for covering Iraq too heavily,
saying, "we cover what's important", can't help himself from
reporting on Paris, Lindsey, Brittney and other useless swill.

Bravo, Mika! ;D

Honestly, it looked staged - though it probably had its foundation in truth. Mika probably made a fuss about not doing the Paris story at the pre-show meeting or something. Then, they played it up on the show. Good for her and smart on Joe's part. Look at all of the free publicity that's come from it. So, my guess is that there was some truth in what happened - even if it was truly staged.

You know, even though I know she's clearly a political lefty - I still find her to be quite fetching!! Me like Mika!! ;D

What would make you say that? It has nothing to do with what
happened.
