MSNBC beats CNN in primetime

Might be time to start shifting some shows around... Maybe Dobbs can be put in the 8 PM timeslot... Maybe moving AC360 back an hour and moving Larry to the 8 PM hole - or would that be suicide?

In other news, Fox News is still eating MSNBC & CNN's lunch......

Not just their lunches, but HLN's too. All of their lunches combined. FNC had 10 of the top 10 most-viewed cable news shows last week. That MSNBC beat CNN just goes to show just how pathetic CNN's ratings are.

Somehow, CNN is findin a silver living, proclaiming its "best June ever":

The problem with ratings is that its possible to find some silver lining in the cloud if you look hard enough, and then spin it so the numbers sound good for you. For one thing, CNN is quoting Nielson "fusion" data which combines TV ratings with internet hits (if I understand correctly). So their spin is that CNN beats FNC in "total reach" - 125 million in April compared to only 105 million for FNC.

I'm not sure this statistic will sway advertisers who are buying time on TV - perhaps CNN is offering advertisers a TV/website combo rate...

I remember about a decade ago in the Bay Area, the number 3 rated network affiliate claimed their news was the "most watched" local news. Of course, this was because they ran more hours of news than the other affiliates, so they were able to claim bragging rights even though they were consistently rated number 2 or 3 at 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00.

It is the exact same thing with Arbitron as well. Years ago in the market I was working in, at the time we had no less than FOUR local radio stations who claimed they were "number one" and all of them had a case. One station ( country music ) claimed they were number one "in the entire area", another ( HOT AC ) said they were tops "in the city", while another one ( CHR ) said "we reach more young people than anyone else " while the local big band/standards station had made the claim "..we are number one...among people with money".

Of course in all of their print ads...they spelled out in big letters "WE ARE NUMBER ONE !!!!!"..but if one looked at the "very small print" in those ads......
