Statement from NBC News: "Effective immediately, MSNBC will no longer simulcast the "Imus in the Morning" radio program. This decision comes as a result of an ongoing review process, which initially included the announcement of a suspension. It also takes into account many conversations with our own employees. What matters to us most is that the men and women of NBC Universal have confidence in the values we have set for this company. This is the only decision that makes that possible. Once again, we apologize to the women of the Rutgers basketball team and to our viewers. We deeply regret the pain this incident has caused." Joe_Capitano said:if you wanted to watch the Imus Radiothon, watch your radio.
Johnathan said:How about offering "All Weather. All Morning."? They could offer a national feed of NBC Weather Plus during the former Imus timeslot.
Mark_Giardina said:What choice did MSNBC have? Their major sponsors bailed, a number of NBC employees wanted Imus gone and they took their complaints to the President of NBC news. A decision had to be made.
Yes the argument is going to be made that Imus should have been allowed to meet with the Rutgers Basketball team, serve out his two week suspension, then executives at both MSNBC and CBS radio make a decision on Imus' future. From a business perspective however its best to get this entire episode over with.
On the other hand there have been 'shock jocks' who have said and done worse things and they are still working in the business.
My take in it is that CBS radio will also cave and fire Imus. Then Imus' mentor, Uncle Mel, will offer him a job on satellite radio. Unfortunately for Imus its not cable TV and he won't garner the audience he once had.
As I wrote in another post the bigger question is what will those radio stations who carry Imus do to fill the void? As for MSNBC, it's doubtful they will go with another radio personality to replace Imus. Instead they will either feature an early morning team like FOX or just have news readers like CNN.
