But here is the problem: Neither the left nor the right will share time on a consistent basis for the show to work. Each King of The (Left or Right) wants nothing more to do than pontificate (i.e. "No spin" or "Special Comment") their way through the show. No consistent opposition, especially in the studio and especially having to opinionate on the fly.

There's a similar satire of this format in a bit from the 1977 cult classic "Kentucky Fried Movie".

...both Kentucky Fried Movie and Airplane! were the creations of the Wisconsin-based comedy group Kentucky Fried Theater. Unfortunately, that last sketch in Kentucky Fried Movie was in fact directly pirated (gag-for-gag except for Tara Strohmeier's nudity) from a 1971 episode of Dave Allen at Large; since the BBC hadn't syndicated Allen to the U.S. yet, the Zuckers and Landis thought they could get away with their plagiarism...
