MSNBC's Keith Olbermann takes the bold step

I was hoping this would happen, and it finally will. Tonight (7/3), Keith Olbermann is going to have a special comment asking Bush and Cheney to resign from office after yesterday's commuting of Scooter Libby's sentence. Yesterday, for the first time ever, Olbermann named Bush his "Worst Person In The World".

I hope God blesses Keith with more viewers. I also hope Brian Williams or Charlie Gibson comes out with a comment asking for Bush's ouster from office.

Olberman is paid to give his opinion. He's not a news anchor or reporter. Gibson, Williams, and Katie Couric are paid to read and report the news, and keep their opinions to themselves while anchoring their newscasts. It's not their job to opine.

Walter Cronkite opened up that Pandora's Box of news anchors giving commentary in 1967. He should have been fired by CBS for doing so, as should Williams or Gibson if they bloviate about their views on Bush & Cheney during their newscasts, whatever their views may be.

It's the news anchor's job to read the news. I couldn't care less what his/her opinion of that news is.

Keith Olbermann was outstanding. He told in the most blunt of terms that Bush and Cheney must resign.

Finally, someone has had the guts to say that not only does the emperor not have any clothes on but that he is a blithering dope.

Hope MSNBC links Olbermann's remarkable remarks to its website.

One almost expected Cheney's thugs to break into the studio and shoot Olbermann from which of course Bush would issue an immediate pardon.

God, save the United States from Bush and Cheney and their thuggery.

So a liberal host on a liberal network in a liberal medium dared to offer pointed criticism of a (allegedly) conservative President...what's so bold about that?

I thought Olbermans comments were excellent. Well written, well researched, and delivered with true passion. I got the impression he is an American like myself who is truly scared of what this administration is doing and what the fallout will be next week and in the years to come. From a broadcasting point of view, it was an excellent piece. Not news, but commentary.

As for a pardon, no it wasn't officially a pardon, but it will keep Scooter out of jail until Bush leaves office and gives him a complete pardon. Don't even pretend that you don't think this will happen.

Some people hate Olberman, some people love him. Some hate O'Rielly, some love him. America is a democracy so lets not lose sight of the fact that we live in a country where we have the freedom to disagree, to debate. We are blessed with the right to question our government, to complain about them, and to demand they do what we collectively think is right. To speak out against the government without fear. And we still live in a country where no one is above the law,,,, or do we?

Then I'd suggest Brit Hume or Shepard Smith to be the next anchors to get the axe.

Hume is not an anchor, except as a substitute. He's the host of one politically-oriented opinion show and is a panelist on another. He, like Olbermann, is paid to give his opinion.

Smith has always done a decent job at keeping his opinions to himself (His coverage of Hurricane Katrina being a notable exception). I haven't watched him in a couple of months, though. Has he become as bad as the rest of the Fox operation now?

NBC seems to want to re-invent the Cronkite era, with "news" that the war in Iraq is now a civil war (run accross all of its platforms) and now Olbermann's call for the President to resign. Except this isn't 1967 or 1974 and Olbermann isn't Cronkite.

'Tis funny. Could've fooled the folks at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.....

With the way things are going now, it's looking like TV & political history is repeating itself.

Cheers :D

It's funny to me that some folks think Olbermann's comments are a big deal. Had I not seen the posting here, I wouldn't have known he made them. His show is low rated and really hard to watch. Olbermann is just as big a blowhard as Bill O'Reilly. I have no use for either program.
