Mt. Adams 1972 - Michaels Everywhere

Mt. Adams 1972 - Michaels Everywhere

So a black-Radio-Van pulls up into the Bar Parking lot and three guys get out ! Inside the Bar
"John Phillips" is spinning tunes ( real 45 rpm records ) ......
At a very loud table sit ; Randy Michaels , Dave Michaels, & Tom Michaels ( Tom Cat ) getting
blasted out of their skulls with blond bimbos'''''''hanging all over them.... I remember hearing
the waitress say All your last names are Michaels ? Around 1am - Randy Michaels takes them
all in the black radio van to Q-102 studios and gives them the 25 cent tour apon which they see
a poster on the back of the door with a picture of "Mike Fenwick" ( news ) with a very disparaging
remark in black magic-marker ...... Q-102 studio was no bigger than a bathroom ! Really !!
True story .. it is what it is .... The great & the near great ; btw --- where is John Phillips today ?

Re: Mt. Adams 1972 - Michaels Everywhere

Exact opposite atmosphere in that little Q102 studio--circa 1975, picture this image that's etched in my mind for life : Giving 2 ladies a quick tour and in comes Pat Barry in an undershirt for his shift. IIRC, Randy had the previous shift & was quite accommodating...Pat simply announced "I'm going to have to ask you all the leave as we do not have the facilities for a studio audience". To Pat's credit, his garment didn't stink...but his attitude did.

Fish Heads - in 1972 WKRC - FM was just switching from classical to "Stereo 102" playing contemporary music. Q102 arrived circa 1975 - if your story is true the dates are wrong.

And yes, the original Q studio (in the old building at the base of the tower) was miniscule. But you can still generate a big sound from a small room.

Re: Mt. Adams 1972 - Michaels Everywhere

I visited the KRQ operation in Summer, 1974. This was just 6 months after Bill Todd had been canned and the " Listen We Think We Have Found You" logo was gone. They were still in the small building out back, but you would swear they had a large studio. I visited with Pat Barry and he was very gracious. I think it was later, in the 1980's that it appeared he got so full of himself that he seemed pretty arrogant. Just my take on the times folks

When did the Carlson family sell the station?
