MT football play-by-play ? Any news?

I have heard that MT football will be on FM 106.7, but there has not been a job posting for the play-by-play position on the MTSU school site. Isn't there a 30-day mandatory posting for the state of Tennessee?

I have heard rumors of Charlie McAlexander and Mark Howard.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything. Thanks in advance.

Charlie McAlexander would be a good choice. I don't think Mark Howard would be a good fit for MTSU.

I agree with your assessment.

I have a feeling that the broadcaster will be an employee of a sports marketing firm, and not MT (ISP, Daktronics, etc)

I would have thought that Chip Walters would move up to play by play or at least still be part of the broadcast.

Glad to know it will be on a comercial station in Nashville. Will it still be distributed over TRN?

I am not sure about the TRN thing. I am not real sure on the the sports marketing firm deals operate.

I would think that Walters is still in the mix, or may be a color guy.

We do need someone in there with some sort of knowledge of the history of MT Athletics.

Our AD really wants to get coverage in all of Davidson County.

A personal note-- I had to listen to the Vandy broadcast during the Vandy/MT game last season, because I could not pick up any of the Blue Raider stations. But, Joe Fisher is about as good as they come, in my opinion.

yes...TRN has the satellite distribution for MTSU: as for over-the-air,
WMOT carried the football last yearwith a good Nashville signal...as for WVRY...

I have a friend who I know has applied for the job. His name is Todd Hamilton. Todd is currently working small market radio in his home state of Kentucky. He has worked in the past on broadcats of Western Kentucky University sports and called games briefly at Louisiana-Lafayette. He would be a very good choice for MT.

Why? Because first of all his age compared to some of the other candidates that have been mentioned. And he has told me if he were lucky enough to be chosen for the job he plans to stay at MT for the remainder of his career. He says he's at a point in his life where he is ready to find that one school who appreciates his passion, professionalism and hard work that he would put into doing the games and other programs and such.

Unfortunately, Todd had a couple of bad breaks. At WKU,he was offered the job at a major salary decrease and at La-Lafayette there were a number of circumstances that made it unbearable for him. He is deserving of the chance to do the one thing that he has wanted to do all of his life, be a college sports broadcaster. He does an outstanding job not only in doing the games, but also knows how to ask the right questions in interviews and sometimes brings things out of his interviewees in a positive light that otherwise might not be mentioned.

I understand from Todd that he has had several quality people go to bat for him to get the opportunity to interview for the job. There are some contacts of his in Nashville who I understand are helping along with a contact who has ties to ESPN who have called on his behalf.

Personally, I think Middle Tennessee would miss out if they didn't give this well deserving guy an opportunity. I realize that there are some other big names being mentioned, but if Middle Tennessee is looking for someone for the long haul, who wants the job and will be a first class professional all the way, then Todd Hamilton is the man!

I watched Bob Bell & Boots on Hope Hines' Sportsline TV Show the other night, and Bell indicated there would be a power increase. Don't know if he "knew for sure" or was guessing.

At any rate, with FM 89.5, plus 106.7, hopefully we'll get into all of Davidson.

If we ever start winning, maybe everything will take care of itself, eh?

Still no word.

Apparently, MT has narrowed it down to one sports marketing company, and they, along with MT, and FM 106.7 will make a joint decision (according to radio reports).

However, I think it will be Massaro's decision only, and that decision will be Charlie Mac.

First game is August 31st, so they had better hurray!

Maybe Boots will be the color man ::)

Boots would be a good color man, in all seriousness. However, I don't look for him to have much of anything to do with MTSU as long as Sidney McPhee is president.

Perhaps if the University provided McPhee with a hot young assistant...... ;)

Yes, was just joking with the Boots stuff. He would certainly "tell it like it is" wouldn't he?

We won't see Boots back around until McPhee has left, I'm afraid.

However, you cannot argue with the job that Chris Massaro has done. In retrospect, it was a good move by McPhee.

I certainly think it could have been handled better, but Boots was going to be p'o'ed either way.

Whoops.......

Charlie Mac to be named on Wednesday.

Ingram had contract squabbles he could not get out of.

McAlexander here for a one-year trial basis.

Dick Palmer will continue with men's basketball.

guess it helps to reply after quoting...
at least they made the announcement with more than a week before the first game!

Charlie MacAlexander is a good choice. Despite having been out of the area for several years, he's still a name and also a solid play-by-play guy.

I think so, too. It came down to him and Kevin Ingram.

We will welcome Charlie Mac with open arms.

Chip Walters to do the color, and Dick Palmer to remain as the basketball announcer.

Charlie Mac to do the coach's radio show. No word on the football coach's TV show.

Palmer to do the basketball radio show. Walters to do the basketball TV show.

It's halftime...and the difference in the MTSU broadcast is STAGGERING!
Charlie Mac sounds great...and the MTSU broadcast no longer sounds like a bad
campus station broadcast...and that's being kind to the last few years.
The first two games last year were a constant technical malfunction...tonight, so far so good!
This is a good start...now if they'll just watch the levels.

Glad that FM 89.5 is on board now too. I have listened to 89.5 in Cookeville, in Huntsville, in Bowling Green, and near Jackson, Tn.

106.7 will be loud and clear in Nashville now (89.5 is distorted in areas), and locally in Murfreesboro we have 1450 AM.

Look for another announcement regarding MT media in the near future.
