KVEA comes from Mount Harvard, the next hilltop over to the south, while KNBC (and KWHY) are at Mount Alta, the central cluster of Wilson towers.

Is KNBC on 52-2 yet?

It would be far worse for the radio stations on Mt. Wilson as opposed to the TV, since TV can still be received on cable and satellite.

The four light tower is CBS 2 and it's 1000' stick. Because of smoke diffraction, those are the amber security lights at the base, not flames (at this point.)

Earlier, it was reported that from the chopper's vantage point by its pilot, Larry Welk in a closed circuit feed to TOC, it appears that the CBS site "will be the first to go."

Just in the last 10 minutes, they put KNBC on 52-2 (in SD, rerunning Monk). Also, 4-4 has been replaced with KWHY.

NOAA Weather Radio has its tower on Mt. Lukens. It is off air.

Why doesn't KTLA 9 run a crawl on its DISH NETWORK feed?

While the loss of radio, TV and the observatory (alone) would be disasterous ... I fear, actually, the aftermath. There would be riots in the streets once the scanners and TVs go off. And, maybe, worse. I think this could be much more worse than just a loss of radio and TV on a national, state and local basis.

Think about it.

Many stations have reduced power to prevent arcing in the transmission lines in the event they get overheated by the fire.... so the coverage areas will be reduced.

I'm actually getting a pretty solid signal according to my Digital TV receiver. narkspud's earlier post seems to be correct.

Almost. A logo popped up for a few minutes, then for a while their mapping was FUBAR'd. Now they appear to be back to normal.

I need to quit channel surfing. I'm starting to feel a little silly.

The winds have subsided to an almost dead calm and it appears it is not, for now, a dire situation as it once was earlier today.

Firefighters expected flames to reach Mount Wilson by 7 p.m., fortunately that has not happened.

The bad news, this is a terrain driven fire and the flames are making its way to Mount Wilson.

It depends on the weather at this point.
