MT. WILSON FIRE THREAT?

It seems like we've been waiting three nights for that mountain to be engulfed in flames. It doesn't seem to be happening. Not saying that it won't. But things sure she seem to be moving slowly.

Nobody wants to see the thing go up in flames. But after hearing about it for three days I find myself sitting and waiting for it to happen. The media has us expecting for it to happen. So now I'm curious if it actually will.

So sad so sad... My question is when Mt. Wilson burning how much time after the fire is put out when will they be able to to back up on Mt. Wilson to rebuild the radio sites and replace all the TV, radio, public safety, Amateur Radio, GMRS, etc transmitters and repeaters?
 
I believe with all the integral and historical equipment up there that every attempt to save it will be made. Super scoopers, flame retadent, firefighters, all the resources will make one of the biggest stands ever to save mt. wilson. I think if it were to go up it would've happened already, and the reason it hasnt is because of the measures they have already taken.

Assuming that the fire reaches the transmitter site...

The critical stuff, like radio and TV and emergency services can be back up there and running in some cases in less than 2 weeks using portable buildings, etc. Permanent rebuilds would start immediately after, with improved structures and new equipment. Nobody is going to abandon one of the best transmitter sites in the nation... they will rebuild and fast.

Less essential stuff, like ham repeaters, will come later.

The result will be better structures and all new equipment.

I have been saving the cam pics every two hours, and the smoke on Monday morning early in the morning was so heavy you could not see anything but the outline of the towers. While it cleared as the day moved on, there was more smoke yesterday.

Depending on the color, smoke can also indicate that the fire is being extinguised.
 
Watching CBS2 chopper now. (Guys, I think it's Amelia Earhart again...) Smoke looks close to towers...

"Gonna touch equipment here momentarily."

Flames look closer to the observatory from what I can personally see.
 
KTTV-11 reporting live that situation is "looking good" with lots of crew and much more conservation clearing, as well as "controlled burn" backfires in the area of the Observatory. Smoke does not indicate impending doom, though it is heavy in the tower area.
 
I think they were lucky the flames slowed down compared to two days ago. The firefighters had extra time to clear brush and spread fire retardants. Looks like the towers will survive.
