MTM! WKRP! Newhart! Starting tonite on American Life

If the "Hallelujah Tabernacle Choirs" version of "You're having Our Baby" (what a lovely way to say you're thinking aboouuut uuusss..right now) was missing, its a good bet the series won't have the original music.

Second episode didn't have any real music, it was basically a continuation of first show.

As for Newhart, I was very wrong, Larry, Darryl and Darryl showed up on episode #2 as the company "Anything for a buck"

But the first season is still dull, shot on video and with the terrible wacky neighbor and boring maid.

WKRP eps are the lame-o TV Land versions (replaced/cut music). This version does have more real music than the DVD though (ex. the Pink Floyd scene survived in "Turkey's Away" (at least on TV Land).

First ep (originally) had music, notably "Your Having Our Baby", (not replaced....on DVD at least, though may have been cut for time on the new syndie ep), and Ted Nugent's "Queen Of The Forest" (first rock song Johnny plays, replaced here, but oddly not on the later "clip show" episode).

Second episode also originally had real music...the scene with Johnny in the booth originally started with a Rolling Stones tune, then Johnny speaks, talks about "feeling feverish", "People ask me what do I take, well I'll tell ya" (cue "Old Time Rock And Roll" by Bob Seger) "...Just take those old records off the shelf....." Joke now makes little sense with stock instrumental music.

Old lady comes in, whacks turntable with umbrella..hilarity ensues. Scene closes with Johnny cueing up and playing The Stones "Shattered". All were replaced in the TVLand/AmLife airing, as well as the DVD). The Stones songs were cut from the early syndie run as well.

Also, anyone else notice the video is sped up?

James Taylor "Your Smiling Face" I recall was in the episode where the girl leaves the baby at the station doorstep. Q: What was the part-timer's name who was rarely mentioned? Did they ever have real "shifts"? Some episodes Johnny would be on mornings, some afternoons, but of course Venus always did evenings. Also wasn't there an episode where Bailey was just there running an American Top 40 or board-op shift? I don't mean the one where she interviewed the crazy guy("Children are insane!"). ???
Would bootleged versions w/ original song tracks be available out there anywhere? ???
Glad I didn't blow my money on season 1 when it came out in the stores.
Even as a kid I'd say "That's fake, how come he doesn't have his headphones on? He can't hear himself"."Why can't you ever hear 'em cue-ing up the record?" "That cart had to end by now-he's been talkin' to Herb for 2 minutes!" (Family didn't understand). :)

is it moss steiger (sp?)....i know they mentioned his name even with the new wkrp....

about the bootlegs....i just got mine from tvshowsonline.com for about $85 (us....and that included shipping). it's the syndicated episodes, but the original music is intact. the picture and sound quality are above average (not perfect), but to me it works, if it means having the orig. music.

Moss Steiger was the perennial overnight guy who I don't believe was ever shown. I seem to recall Moss's "death" on the New WKRP.

Hmmmm... tvshowsonline apparently isn't what it used to be (now a web domain site it looks like). So they even changed Jennifer's doorbell from "Fly Me to the Moon" to something else? Sounds like the storebought ones would be a waste for radio people.

The part-timer was Rex Earhardt your "Airhead of the Airwaves" as Johnny calls him. There is one episode but I can't remember which one, we actually see rex on-air filling in for Johnny or Venus, he's dressed up like some kind of preppie dude, tennis sweater, tennis shorts, drinking perrier, the whole bit. Pretty funny stuff.

I love the ep. where Johnny is doing overnights and giving away those boom boxes. His intro to the contest is something like "BE THE 5TH CALLER TO 555-WKRP AND NAME ANY THREE OF THE MANY OBSCENE WORDS IN THE NEXT SONG TO WIN A FREE RADIO. A couple minutes later Andy calls up, Johnny answers and says "HEY ANDY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP AT 5:07 A.M. ANDY CURSES JOHNNY, (unheard) Johnny Says, "CONGRATULATIONS, BY YOUR CHOICE OF WORDS, YOU'VE JUST WON A FREE RADIO PAL!"

oops, oops, and triple oops. thats what happens from trying to think of things from the top of my head...it's allmyfavoriteshows.com. sorry guys.

when you order...be sure to check the discs to make sure they play...i had 9 discs that are defective...they are replacing them with no charge

I just wish that ALN would run these shows more than once a week. At this rate, assuming that are shown in order and they aren't pre-empted for something else, it will take from 2 years to see all of WKRP to 4 years for Newhart (80's). Turkeys Away should be on soon, but it will take almost 4 years to wait to see Newhart's final eposide. And that's making a big assumption that ALN continues to exist as a network and they don't make any changes. I'll admit that it's better than their not being on at all though after Nick/TV Land sitting on them for years and doing little or nothing with them.

UGH! We don't get American Life down here in central Alabama!

I just watched the Season 1 DVDs of WKRP and was frustrated by the replacement sound-alike music. Any chance WKRP will be shown on another network?

Man, those MTM shows were great. Highest quality.

whoever mentioned that the moonies now own American Life Tv are you talking about Les Moonves and Julie Chen?

as what i have said a long time ago, if you order from an outside source (like allmyfavoriteshows.com), be EXTREMELY careful....they STILL haven't replaced the discs that were defective, and it's been several months. i have sent e-mails and chatted with them, but they kept on saying that they are backlogged, and whatever discs they have are not of good quality. so please be aware.

I noticed that ALN is showing the pilot episodes for MTM, WKRP, and both Newhart shows again tonight. That's great for anyone who wants to record them and didn't get a chance to last Summer (like me), but I hope this doesn't mean that they're starting over again with episodes form the first season or two of each show that have already been shown. ???

I wonder if this will also happen with the lineups for other nights.

I dadgum agree with you we don't get American Life in South Alabama either. I am from Coffee County and I used to live in Highway 87 between Elba and Troy with my grandmother and we gave up our Directv when we moved into the town of Elba. I will tell you right now that directv sure beats the h*** out of the basic cable in Elba. If I still had Directv then I would look out for American Life TV.
