MTRN signs with Jones

The Midnight Trucking Radio Network, heard on stations like WBAP and WJR, is now distributed by Jones Radio, following a long lapse in official network representation. Of course, Jones has been dropping shows lately, so this returns their weekday stable to six shows, three of which are libtalk.

MTRN is one of two trucking talk shows, not to be confused with the Truckin' Bozo which originates from WLW. Question is, with XM and Sirius featuring trucker content, will the model of getting 50kW flamethrowers to cover the U.S. for truckers be relevant anymore, and will top talk stations like these transition into more general interest talk for those up late rather than trying to appeal to the trucker niche?

is jones this hard up?

I can't see this working for Jones long term. I know a few people who drive trucks for a living and they tell me that many truckers these days have switched to satellite radio. A few of the old timers still twiddle the dials from city to city but they're a fading breed. Maybe Jones has a sweetheart deal with MTRN but still, I can't see this lasting too long...
