MTV 2 to Launch in Canada. Razer to be no more...

MTV2, a digital specialty channel, launches in Canada on August 1.
It's broadcast licence will allow the channel to be 10 per cent music videos.

The plan is to target 12-to 24-year-olds,
a younger demographic than that targeted by MTV Canada.

"MTV2 is a rebranding of Razer by CTV. Razer used to be called MTV Canada, back when it was owned by Craig Media and launched in 2001. CHUM then took over Craig Media in 2004 and thus owned the MTV brand. Then, in 2005, CHUM rebranded MTV as Razer, after which CTV launched its own version of MTV Canada.

Now, CTVglobemedia has taken over CHUM, and is bringing Razer back to its MTV roots."

Just 10 per cent music videos?! They could easily hide them in the overnight hours on Saturday and Sunday and have none the rest of the time.

More garbage..........

So sad......... MTV used to be the BEST music network out there....

I cant believe Canada is letting this trash in!!

10 percent is a lot compared to the 0 percent allowed by the licence of MTV Canada. Still, I do give the management some credit for finding a way to turn around and rebrand various low rated channels. Now if they can at least add some reruns of 969 to MTV Canada, and send some of the endless replays of MTV Live to MTV2 Canada, they'd be getting somewhere. I know it's just one CanCon for another, but it would at least liven things up, and 969 would be seen by a wider audience thanks to MTV Canada's Category 1 status.
