MTV going off air outside US

I'm surprised nobody has posted this before me. MTV is going off the air everywhere except for the US on December 31. I'm a bit surprised it's staying on in the US. I bet it won't be long before it goes off, especially all those subchannels.

K.M. beat me to the punch as it has been posted before. And I've seen countless social media posts with people believing MTV itself is going away. While there is rampant speculation as to what this could portend, the facts are nothing is happening to MTV itself - just its video-intensive side channels (MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live) are going away.

Typical of many people these days, they read just the headline and go "errmagherrd, must share"

Its not shocking to hear but at the same time we mentioned this in other places its tied with Paramount protecting their flagship app Paramount+ in other places and shutting down MTV's variants was just one of them along with the layoffs at Paramount we mentioned in another thread.

Which ends up being "errmagherrd, must clutter the message board". (Love that way of phrasing it, Paul.)

The real problem -- which I have complained about in the past but rarely do anymore because it never changes people's behavior -- is a failure to properly check their favorite message board to see if anyone already posted what they are about to.

Failure to do so results in what I consider to be no more acceptable than spamming the board.

MTV in the United States will continue to operate as of 2025-26.

I think that was obvious, since the news articles linked referred to their overseas channels.

OTOH, it does get confusing after a while.

There was something similar in the past year when the headlines said Showtime was shutting down. But once we read the details surrounding that it’s tied to Showtime app shut down and merging its content with Paramount+ and Showtime on Cable is still running as of 2025. It’s all tied to Paramount protecting their flagship app Paramount+. It’s just a continuation of that.

In the words of Jon Taffer, SHUT IT DOWN!
MTV hasn't been relevant since they aired The Osbournes.

The title of this thread is misleading. MTV's music video channels in the UK are going off the air, but NOT MTV itself where reality crap will continue to air instead of music.

I really do hope the NOW channels + Clubland continue.
