MTV Moving VMA's Up An Hour Due To Obama/DNC

well i can't say for the VMA's but the NFL Kickoff game will get higher ratings than Obama's Speech at the DNC would ever get. And remember TNA Impact Wrestling! will be more than likely live that night and if it's a nice late-summer evening outside most people will go out rather than be inside that evening.

FWIW, in 2008 for McCain's RNC speech, the NFL moved up the start of the kickoff game an hour (as opposed to an entire day which is the case this year); meanwhile, the VMA's aired on a Sunday night that year.

I remember back in the day the VMAs used to ALWAYS air on a Thursday, but I think they switched to Sunday a few years ago. When did they switch back?

Wiki actually has seven out of the last eight VMA's with the exception of 2006 being held on a Sunday night. So I guess the switch back to Thursday is on for this year at the very least. (Wiki also lists the VMA's as being held on a Wednesday back in 1996 - another election year...)

As a kid, I recall the VMAs always being held the first Thursday after Labor Day, which always corresponded with our first day back in school (at least in Southern California). Its interesting to see that they're moving back to Thursdays.
