MTV Playing old videos??

It would appear that MTV (the regular MTV channel) is playing music videos again, in the morning only, Monday through Thursday. The block is called "AMTV," which is seen on both MTV and MTV2. I was watching it the other day, since it's nice that MTV is still playing music videos at all. They played the video for Beyonce's new song, "Halo." And right after that, they played "Beat It" by Michael Jackson! Yes, that is correct! It was the ORIGINAL video from 1983. It even said something that said, "Throwback: 1983" in the corner of the screen. I could not believe when I saw this. My jaw dropped straight to the ground. I don't even remember the last time the regular MTV channel played a video from the 80s. I wonder how often they'll be doing this.

Probably until some 21 year old college dropout becomes program director, then we can have marathons of "Next" every morning! :D

Due to music royalties, it is way cheaper to play music videos in the morning.

I was mind blown when I first saw this as well. Not only new videos but old ones as well on MTV/MTV2 in the AM. I like how they have the year of the video over the bug in the corner (Throwback:19XX). So far I've seen Beck's "Where It's At" and Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" on AMTV.

Yes, it has restored my faith in humanity, to see actual videos on MTV & MTV2.
From what I can tell, I'd describe "AMTV" as something like a CHR station with a heavy dose of "Throwback" videos (which actually *do* spice things up, keep viewers interested, and make one wonder what's up next) - and "AMTV2" seems more like an Active Rock version of that same format.

To bad they can't show more music videos during the day. Right now they are showing a movie.

Also BET doesn't show hip hop music videos anymore do they? When I flip through the channels and it lands on BET. Either they have a movie on or a sitcom like Family Matters.

I was surprised too kind of when i first saw this..

Maybe they are realizing what a piece of garbage they have become and are trying to make amends!

"Due to music royalties, it is way cheaper to play music videos in the morning."

Care to explain this? I wasn't aware it was any cheaper for MTV to play a video at 5 AM than 5 PM.
