Muddled Audio

It seems like when KCOL moved to its new tower, the station sounded better, at least for awhile. Recently, the audio sounds even worse than before the move to the new transmitter, something akin to listening to an AM station on FM. Has Clear Channel lost all of the technical expertise in fixing their Golden Triangle stations? This is not the only engineering problem they seem to have.

Sounds like a PD who cant keep their fingers off the processor....have worked with them before...

I checked every CC FM in the triangle today - all sounded horrible. Someone is tinkering at the studio.

CC evidently is gearing up for IBOC in the triangle...I understand 92.5 has a new Nautel xmtr with a Flexstar exciter....Gawd the audio is horrible on it!!! 99.9 out of Liberty sounds cleaner and better! BTW also heard that CC plans to move 104.5 to the Channel 4 tower (and diplex it with 106.1's antenna)....something that should have been done YEARS ago...maybe now the 103.3 signal in Beaumont will go away

99.9 doesn't sound like it has a "suck-o-max," a "smash-o-max," a "pump-o-max," a "distort-o-max," a "noise-o-max," and a "fatigue-o-max" on it for a reason. We installed a new Omnia1 several months ago and I think it sounds the best it ever has.

If anyone would like to offer some suggestions as to how we could improve it without putting a lot of other crap on the line, I'm all ears. The Omnia, by the way, is the only piece of gear we use for processing.

Well, CC must have read the board.....KCOL sounded clean and crisp this afternoon!!! But not as loud as it could be....but some songs I heard WERE A DEFINITE improvement over the muddled garbage of recent! (I understand 92.5 and 104.5 will doing the IBUZ soon.....104.5 sounds a little down in level....but quality is still good) and comparing it to 99.9, they were pretty close...I take it the processor for 99.9 is still at the studio feeding composite to the Nautel? That Omnia has a good reptutation ( I was NOT impressed by an earlier Omnia processor compared to a Orban 8200!! with similar formats: classic rock and AC but their latest seems to be a winner)
With the Omnia doing composite out, you really dont need anything else...(now if it was at the xmtr site and you were doing discrete or AES from the studio, different story!!)...

The Omnia is at the studio. Prior to the Omnia, we were using the Orban parametric, a Dominator, a Compellor, and the Optimod.

For several weeks, KCOL sounded really good, I thought. I haven't had a chance to listen to them in the last couple of weeks, though.
