Multi Hop FM E-Skip from the USA to Ireland This Week

Wasn't that June 26th as well?

Yes, June 26th is the correct date for the Ireland catch, based on the YouTube video. It wasn't reported on the NJ Board until this week.

I had a feeling there would be multi-hop action somewhere on June 26th, as I could hear stations from the Gulf Coast and Newfoundland at the same time that day, and I'm in NJ which would be a good spot for a ground hop between the 2 e-skip clouds.
WENJ can now claim that they are heard around the world :)

This is great if you are a DXer.

Yes, we've just experienced the sunspot low, so it's all up from here.

Pretty soon, the E-skip will be WAAAAAAYYYY better, as with the sunspots.

Actually I think the peak will be in 2013, but I could be wrong as it's hard to predict exactly when we'll hit maximum. One thing for sure, conditions will improve in the coming years.

This e-skip season's pretty good, I had 6 FM e-skip days in 2 months, and must have missed some more. I feel like the chance of an e-skip opening on a given day is about the same as the chance of seeing a rainbow, but I have had more e-skips than rainbows this year. This board's getting cluttered with e-skip posts too which is a good sign.

Only on shortwave. High sunspot numbers are bad for AM and have little or no effect on FM and TV.

E-layer skip is generally held to be almost totally unaffected by sunspots. (note that we've had an excellent skip year this year despite having some of the lowest sunspot numbers on record) F-layer skip is greatly affected, but the highest frequency on which F-skip has ever been reported is 70MHz. F-skip is possible on DTV channels 2 and 3 but not FM.

I knew the rise in sunspots wouldn't help AM, but I didn't know about the FM part.
Thanks for the clarification.

And I should probably re-clarify, that when I say "High sunspot numbers are bad for AM..." I mean they're bad for AM DX. They're probably good for the stations themselves and their ordinary listeners. (by reducing interference from distant stations)
