Multi-Network Telethon To Benefit Red Cross Katrina Fund Tentatively Set For Tuesday (September 6th).

At this writing (11:55 P.M. EDT September 1st), it appears that there will be a telethon benefiting the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund this coming Tuesday (September 6th) at 8 P.M. EDT, and that it (unlike NBC's telethon tomorrow) will be broadcast on all of the commercial broadcast networks and many cable networks.

This is a Hollywood Reporter story on CNN's website with details about the proposed (but likely) event.

Besides being "roadblocked" on a large number of broadcast and cable TV networks, I hope it can also air on PBS, independent TV stations, dubbed or subtitled into Spanish for broadcast on Univision, Telemundo, and Telefutura, that the sound portion can air on as many radio stations as possible, and that the show also be broadcast to as many countries around the world as possible.

Variety.com is now reporting that next week's telethon will likely be delayed until Friday (September 9th), due to the difficulty in setting up enough phone lines to handle the load of calls the day after Labor Day. Here is the link to the article:

Manchester, NH's local ABC affiliate, WMUR, ran a local telethon all day yesterday (from 5AM to Midnight - even ran the phone number and some quick cut-in's during the Pat's preseason loss to the NY Giants last night) and raisded over $1.1 million. Are any other local stations doing the same?

It also makes me wonder if the upcoming MDA Telethon will make it's goal of beating last year by $1. WMUR is airing most of the telethon (both WMUR and sister WCVB will break away for the PGA Golf tournament in Brookline, MA on Monday while the telethon moves to NECN.)

Will this telethon be anything like the America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon for 9/11? Is this the one that Ellen DeGeneres was in talks with the networks aobut?
