multiband webcast proceessing suggestions

My automation system is OtsAV. It comes with its own set of processing, but it's single band stuff so I don't use it. All I am running is Breakaway using the previously mentioned 12dB limiting preset. A majority of the songs I am playing came from TM studios GoldDiscs or GoldWave downloads. I'm sure those things are EQ'd for terrestrial radio use, so that probably explains the tad bit of brightness.

As far as the song segue settings, OtsAV sets those points automatically. Ideally I'd like the songs to overlap a bit, but sometimes Ots sets the points just a tad bit late. There were a couple of songs it set the point so late that I had to modify the actual audio files to fade a little early. This may have been a bad idea on my part.

As Goran mentioned,you need to try presets.what you;re using is just limiters.the presets have a description of what format it applies to.Stay away from the agressive ones. Not sure what rewound radio uses,but's it nice...processing 60's music requires more compression,different from 80's..Lots of 60's tune lacked spectral balance,they sounded great on AM,but like crap on FM.But the really sad thing is i played those when they were new.(lol)1st time i heard Little girl by syndicate of sound on fm,it was a train wreck!!Have fun..
 
OK guys, at 12:45 PM Central, I changed to another preset. Let me know what you think. Ooooops, it might really be too bright now!

What you have on at the time of this post is not overly aggressive. Sounds smooth and pretty consistent.

Once you have a preset with the spectral balance you like, use the power and speed controls to get to the aggressiveness you want. Range will affect how far out a song will fade before you hear it fade out.

IMO, at 3:48 PM CDT, a little too bassy (for my tastes). Immediately to me that is fatigueing. Keep in mind (as many of us on this board have been there before), perfect processing results (settings) don't always come quickly, and personal tastes are going to vary (sometimes widely). When possible, like in this situation (not living by ratings numbers, and management is screaming down your back to make it louder), I would prefer you went with your initial instinct of gentle, without much, if any, colorization (EQ). You're not hoping this will jump out on the dial as in commercial radio, but something that listener's don't have to adjust the volume on between every song either. Maybe listen to your favorite stream, and try and emulate it. Here are a few other streams to listen to:

Clean, but competitive. Not much fatigue, but with a decent amount of EQ. Very listenable for long periods of time.

I really think you're on the right track though. We are offering opinions, but in the end, as someone else had said, it should really be what you like. As I have noticed, some of us on this board prefer extreme aggressive settings (probably mainly from working in radio), while I am sure I, along with possibly you, prefer a more gentle setting. Thanks for the feedback! Yes indeed, I'm not new at this processing game. I'm just new with using Breakaway. I am sure it will take time to learn it. ;) I remember the first low-cost multiband processor I ever played with. It was the Behringer DSP 9024. I remember all too well how I'd keep tinkering with it to the point I had to force myself to stop and walk away for awhile. ;)

My recommendation - Rustonium.

And someone said to bypass pre-emph. Use 15us or 25us.
Also "12db prot" is not exactly like bypass. It has fully working main clipper (not limiter like someone said) also Bass clipper is ON!

Just FYI, I went with Breakaway Live. This version doesn't have pre-emphasis.

There it is. Bingo! A bit competitive, but very nice. I vote to leave it right there. You should have good TSL numbers with that setting. Wow...nice. I hear a few digital artifacts on a few sound files, but still, the stream is very pleasing. Nice job.
