MundoFox has officially launched

It is also on the low power WFXZ-CD, Boston in 720P. They are identifying as:

MundoFox 8 Hammonton-Philadelphia / MundoFox 24 Boston

This is on 24-1, which was previously Azteca America, which has been moved to 24-2 in SD. 24-3 and 24-4 are SD infomercials as before.

And that will be the problem with MundoFox. It's on a low power station, rather than running it on a subchannel of WFXT, the Fox O&O in Boston where it would be more likely to be seen and picked up by Comcast. I don't get this strategy at all. I'm out in the 'burbs (about 25 miles west) - there's almost no shot of getting WFXZ-CD in with an antenna but I get WFXT loud and clear.
Down here in Philly, channel 8 is not on Verizon or Comcast. I wonder if Fox will push to get both of these stations on Verizon and Comcast.

The Boston/Brookline Comcast system had already been carrying 24.1 as Azteca America, and so they now have MundoFox, with the guide still showing Azteca America. Not in HD however.

WFXT could use retransmission consent (for WFXT) to require 24.1 to be carried on all area systems, the next time it comes around for renewal, though there could theoretically be something in the current agreement about coverage of new Fox offerings.

But as WFXZ 24.1 is a low-powered station owned by Prime Time Partners, a broadcaster unrelated to Fox, it could be done only if WFXT is involved with the operation of WFXZ. Otherwise, not much can be done, as LPTVs are exempt from must-carry rules. Here in Tampa Bay, WSPF channel 35 is the local MundoFox station, yet not only is it not on cable, there's also absolutely nothing about it in the press (in fact, until last week, when I heard about it here in this forum, I thought it was still carrying St. Pete's city access programming). Furthermore, like WFXZ, WSPF is owned and operated by Prime Time Partners, independent from the local Fox O&O, WTVT.

The FCC seems mainly concerned with retransmission agreements being conducted "in good faith". Agreements have often required cable systems to add cable channels owned by the negotiating station's parent company. Would it be a stretch to require carriage of a low power station airing a network owned by the negotiating station's parent?

However, Comcast did not need any pressure to include MundoFox on the Boston / Brookline system.

Very soon [or if not, now], KUNS/51 owned by Fisher will have MundoFox on 51.2.

Made official today: "Fisher expects to begin airing MundoFox on KUNS-TV and KUNP-LP by the end of September 2012."
CLICK HERE for the full Fisher release. BTW: The latter station is in Portland, OR.

Seems weird that Fox chose to affiliate with WPSJ in Hammonton. Wouldn't it have made more sense to affiliate with WMCN? WMCN could continue to run Bounce on one subchannel, and MundoFox on another. I think WMCN has a greater reach, likely has more capability to get it carried on cable, and Fox could one day buy the station out and put MyNetwork on the main channel if it wanted to do that, unless Fox has purchasing WPHL (from Tribune) in mind instead and this deal with WPSJ is very short term.

Fox could just put it on WTXF-2 even in HD. I believe Fox is only 720. Comcast and Verizon seem to carry all the digital sub-channels. It seems that 29-2 would be a better choice than 8-1.

I figured Fox is wary of using it's primary Fox stations bandwidth for subchannels. Fox doesn't program any of the FOX O&O with subchannels of additional programming. However, they do program the co-owned sister station subchannel (e.g. WWOR and KCOP carrying Bounce-TV). I don't know why the reluctance on that front for the Fox station.

Verizon Fios also doesn't yet carry WFMZ's Me-TV. Comcast only provides WFMZ's Me-TV wherever it provides WFMZ. So, Atlantic City that doesn't get WFMZ loses out without getting Me-TV.

Somehow WPVI puts 2 720p channels in addition to a 480i in it's bandwith. WTXF could do 2 720p channels.

WLS-TV in Chicago also does dual 720p HD, & while 7.1 may look ok, 7.2 looks horrible. I hear WISE-TV's dual HD (33.1 being NBC in 1080i & Fox in 720p) isn't working out as well for them either (so bad that even satellite viewers notice it). If we went MPEG4, it might be possible to do dual HD, but the current MPEG2 standard doesn't make it look or run good in most cases.

No affiliate in Boston yet! Univision, Telefutura and Telemundo are still locked into their slots. Perhaps Verizon FIOS and Comcast Xfinity can offer it as a stand alone channel. They've already added Pac-12 Network and Outside Film Festival to the lineup. Any chance, ladies and gents?

No affiliate in Boston for what? MundoFox is on WFXZ-CD 24-1.

And it's now been picked up by Comcast outside of Boston. It's on channel 300, but lists as WFXZ Azteca America. I can confirm that they are running 24.1 Mundo Fox.
