Music changes CBS FM

They change the music on CBS FM lately, more variety and not only pop/rock oriented anymore like before, even more urban/pop-ish dance tracks from the 90's with some more disco from the 80's. So it's a good mix what stations like PLJ (Hot AC era) and Hot 97 playing back in the day.

Remember, stations do listener-based research to determine the songs to play, which not to play and even which should play more than others. With the recent change in morning shows, I am rather confident that they did considerable image and music research to insure continued appeal and to "freshen" the sound after Scott left.

This is all pretty normal.
 
I have an equal fondness for my generation's music (the '90s and early 2000s), and that of my mom's generation (what CBS-FM was playing in the '90s/2000s). And when it comes to the '80s, I prefer rhythmic and new wave/alternative music over the arena rock and adult pop-rock stuff they were emphasizing for a while. So they're getting back into my musical wheelhouse now. I still don't care for the overall presentation and wish it sounded more like Z100 in the early '90s (or even WPLJ in the late '90s), but that's just personal taste. As David said, I'm sure a big station like CBS-FM doesn't make programming decisions lightly.
 
But...their internet stream quality still sounding awfull. After all these years they don't have the knowledge to sound good in my point of view. It sound so energy-less with no 'edge'. I like the over the air FM sound though actually, but their stream it isn't for me.

To me, that is not “changing” the music but using scheduling techniques where a portion of the library plays for a defined period of time or specific number of plays and then rests for a while as other songs enter. Both Music Master and Selector have ways to easily define and do this.

Generally, we use this for two situations. First is for songs that border between a faster and slower rotation, so we flip them occasionally. The other is with lower testing songs that ad variety perception but which will burn if played too much. So we rest them a while to avoid burn. We also do this with artist with too many songs so that the weaker ones switch with each other to allow them all to play without flooding 5e playlist with that artis.
