Music for the connected Lifestyle!

Okay, we've launched Real AM - Music for the connected Lifestyle! Music that is creative commons only, non-mainstream and unlicensed and musicians that own their own copyright and not applicable to royalty collection societies. A great way for those finding new and upcoming talent that you won't find on most main stream format stations. We are also commercial free and listener supported. How crazy is that. Launched today on the first day of spring after 8 months of testing and review from artists and listeners.

Interesting concept -- do the artists pay to be on the station? Otherwise, how will you pay for the bandwidth for the station?

Also noticed you're in mono; most people may not care, but it's a bit jarring in headphones after listening to stereo music. Otherwise the stream sounds good.

Good luck with your efforts!

Thanks NightAire and yes, we were having start up hiccups so we are now back in stereo. Thanks for noticing. No the artists do not pay anything to be on the station they have released their material that they own in a number of creative commons attrition incarnations. The music has been gathered through a lot of hard work and emails back and forth for over 8 mos. to get the format we are currently presenting. We give them attrition back plus link backs to the artist/band site etc. People are always looking for new music and this is one niche way of promoting awareness for new non mainstream material. We are absorbing all costs as we start implementing our format through jingles programming and such through out the spring and summer and then will be promoting our revenue structuring continuing to be commercial free.

Cheers

A common misconception is that if an artist is "unsigned" or indie, royalties somehow don't apply. That's is not true. Even if a recording artist gives explicit written permission to any station that their music can be played royalty-free, that's not necessarily the end of the legal road. If the artist has a label, even private, that corporate entity must also sign off. And if the music is written by someone else, or "covered", well - you get the idea. There can be literally a dozen interested parties in a single musical work, which is why Congress allowed for the Statutory License, administered by SoundExchange.

This is a post at LoudCity, but think about it. There have to be so many people, entities and others involved in any recording.

Be careful about going ahead without licensing.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going over with a fine tooth comb all of the creative commons material, you are right that something could fall through the cracks.

Cheers
