Music Independence Day (MTV, VH1, CMT)

In celebration of Independence Day, these 3 networks are doing it in a special way. It looks like they'll be playing music videos all day, which is something they probably haven't done in ages and ages, especially MTV. It will be going on until 6pm tonight.

Music on Music Television? Where do they come up with this stuff? :D

With the insane amount of money the record labels want to run music videos I cant blame MTV for how little they show

Hey, MTV does run music videos 24/7 on three channels; MTV-U, MTV-Jams and MTV Hits. You need Verizon FiOS to watch em. I'm sure if VH-1 did the same (I think they do with VH1 soul or something like that) there would be more music videos.

Yea, maybe you should be saying "I want my FiOS TV!" :D

While I lament the loss of music television, I understand why MTV, VH1 and CMT have moved away from the format. You go with what provides more eyeballs and ad revenue. Besides, times have changed: if I want to watch a music video, I just pull it up via the YouTube app on my Apple TV. The ones uploaded by the band, the label or VEVO are usually in fantastic quality and uncut.

That having been said, I flipped between MTV and VH1 this morning, and it was wonderful to see the networks playing a solid block of videos again. I hope they make this a regular event.

Can anyone remember 20 yrs ago when VH1 was actually worth watching?

ME! I still remember watching the "Sunday Jazz Brunch" with Bobby Rivers. I remember when Roger Rose was a VJ there. His last known project was Andy Richter's "Pyramid" pilot from about five years ago for TBS. And VH-1's midday girl, Edye Tarbox, who most of us would know these days as news anchor E. D. Hill.

Twenty years ago, VH1 shared channel space with KSTW on Cox Cable Spokane (unless you lived in an area of town that had been "upgraded" to a 50+ channel system). I don't remember how the day was split between the two, though.

some cable systems had VH1 share the channel position with Comedy Central
