Music of the Season

Thursday Morning while trying to find WMRD 1150 I came across the Spaish Station WPRX 1120 and they were playing "Feliz Navidad" by Jose Felicano. (Is it just me or is that the song that never ends? It just seems to go on and on? And the lyrics more or less are just I wanna Wish You a Merry Christrmas from the bottom of my heart in English and Spanish?). Also since that song came out many years ago I consider it to be an Oldies Song. It was weird hear an oldies song followed by a current song. (They played a Reggaeton song right after a station liner. Reggaeton is current music).

Also Sunday Morning at 7:35 when my dad was driving me to work, we didn't want to heard The Beatles being interviewed on DRC, so we switched to WRCH and they played Frosty the Snowman.

Frosty the Snowman is why I refereed to this post as Music of the Season.

Oh, "Beatle Brunch," of course. For a moment there, I thought I'd either slipped into a time warp (What IS this thing I'm typing on???) or Rob Ray had gotten the scoop of the millennium.

Rob: So, how did you find Bloomfield?
John: We turned left at Greenland.

As of this morning STAR 99.9 and WEBE 108 have yet to flip. Now here's a question for ya'll. Do youse think DRC-FM is gonna flip? They have a poll on their website about XMAS Music on the radio. http://www.drcfm.com/

They've got a great collection of seasonal music over there, including a lot of soul stuff you don't hear on other stations, and Rob Ray empties out the library every Christmas eve with five hours of standards and novelties.

That said, I'd prefer that the Christmas music be worked slowly into the regular rotation, week by week, starting in early December, which is the way DRC-FM usually handles it.

Being someone who likes to play Christmas Rappin by Kurtis Blow on July 4th and Halloween music on Valentine's day, sounds like it might be time to tell the guys who have the transmitter to fire up the old Jammin 99.5 and play all Weird Al and other tracks appropriate for April fool's day.

(Hey, I have to earn my name somehow)
