Music Of Your Life is coming to WOCN 1450 Mid -6am Mon=Sun and WEXY 1520 Mid-5am Mon-Fri.,Mid-6am Sat and Sun and 6pm to Mid Sun. Start date 2/1

Interesting.....WOCN lost ESPN Deportes to the stronger 1210, so they had to fill up the time. Sadly I cannot hear them at night where I live (west Broward).

cd

WEXY has increased there nighttime power to 800 watts and now covers more of West Broward. De[ending on where you live,1520 could be available.

Agreed, interesting. Hey, whatever pays the bills.

Good idea...an increasingly popular way for signal challenged AM's to cover large markets.
Have WOCN and WEXY become co-owned when I was not paying attention?
Will they simulcast music, local spots, and everything.

(fair enough, WOCN uses the tower originally constructed for WOAH, 1210's predecessor on 1220)

According to Multicultural Broacasting's Website, at http://www.mrbi.net/radiogroup.htm, it only shows WNMA AM 1210, WEXY AM 1520, WJCC AM 1700, but the site dosen't look like its been updated in ages. Not unless DM FL LICENSEE, LLC is somehow affliated to MRBI, but there is nothing on the web about that. And 1450 killed their site at http://www.1450deportes.com/espn.

"Music of Your Life?" Wait, wasn't that the same satellite service used on the old 640 WJNA when it was Nostalgia? And even 1420 WDJA? There is the problem with S.Fla radio on a whole. Recycling the same crap over and over. Nostalgia doesn't work down here. Done and tried. No imagination, no orginality. Just recycling another stations casts off is the game down here on the AM band. Washed up talent simply shifts from one station to another. And we LOVE taking other markets washed out casts off as well.

And why is a station which services an African American religious (read:gospel) based audience running Nostalgia which appeals to white and not African audiences. And why is a Spanish station running English based, white bread oldies from the 40's? Desperate last gasps to turn a buck is no way to program a radio station.

Popcorn, sad you have never heard of Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Natalie Cole, Etta James, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong,
Fletcher Henderson, Lady Day, Della Reese, The Mills brothers, Diana Ross just to name a few. I was involved with a Churban FM with an AM that was one of the original MOYL clients. In addition to the FM being at the top of the heap, the AM (MOYL) was very well received in the Black community. The station was the only signal that played music serving black adults of that era and they were very grateful somone was finally catering to their tastes. The word of mouth through the African American churches spread like wildfire.
Its sad people open their mouth when they have no idea what they are talking about.

No originality, just desperation.

Since the programming is mostly in overnights, I wonder who they think will listen?

At night, WOCN puts a usable signal (10 mV/m) over about 800,000 people and WEXY over less than 500,000. Or, less than a quarter of the market together. And WOCN's coverage includes a huge percentage of Hispanics, who truly have no affinity with standards.

When ESPN Deportes moved to 1210,WNMA's brokered programs moved to WOCN with an LMA between MRBI and WOCN.The Music Of Your Life was on years ago on WLQY in Hollywood. The old WJNA 640 was with the Jones Radio Network.Time Life Music is getting ready to release A Music of Your Life CD package..Info commercials should start soon on TV.Eventually, the Music of Your Life will be on 20 MRBI stations, mostly during the overnite hours or 6pm to mid.

Never, said I didn't. I voice tracked this format for three years. In fact, I reseached and entered the trivia bits that appeared in each of the automated carts in the automation system. And you forgot to mention Les Paul and Mary Ford.

We're just having a nice open dialog about radio, no need to attack anyone. Anyway, the point I made isn't against the format, it against the recycling of formats and programming that have failed down here previously. Luckily David E, understood my point I was making about the state of programming in South Florida, and not the "Music of Your Life" format itself. I hope that offers clarification, sorry that it upset you.

David Eduardo is always the logical voice of reason on this site, thanks for your continued insights, I enjoy your viewpoints, always.

We'll, the "middle of the road" was already tried three times and the community, regardless of race didn't support it. From a programming standpoint, I think a satellite music service of Gospel or even R&B would be a better fit. Again, talking in terms of programming and operation of a radio station, not about what music appeals to certain skin colors.

Wow, thanks for putting that out there. That is great info. Thanks much!! Wow, I forgot all about WLQY...that is such a long time ago, huh. Wow. Now I feel old!!! Wait....I am old. :(

Now, I shall go pull out my CD's from the Mighty Clouds of Joy, the Soul Stirrers, the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Sensational Nightingales and and Sam Cooke (who appeals to BOTH the GOPSEL and MOYL formats, as he was a one time Soul Stirrer). Haven't listened to these in a while...they are the REAL roots of rock n' roll and R&B! :D ;D

Let's not forget, that Tan Talk 1340 WTAN Clearwater fills any unused broker time with MOYL. It's not meant to entertain, in their case; just to fill the time. I understand that the couple that owns them (and also a 50 k station in Arkansas with practically the same programming) do quite well.....unfortunately, not by running MOYL. And, they are on AM.

(I've heard some WTAN stuff in the past, when I was in the area....I'm not endorsing all of what has been run there!) :)

However, as I work in Miami until midnight, it'll could give me about 15 minutes in the car to check out WOCN on the way home. I checked WEXY on the drive the other night.....won't be easy to hear!
