Agreed, interesting. Hey, whatever pays the bills.cd637299 said:Interesting.....WOCN lost ESPN Deportes to the stronger 1210, so they had to fill up the time. Sadly I cannot hear them at night where I live (west Broward).

(fair enough, WOCN uses the tower originally constructed for WOAH, 1210's predecessor on 1220)cd637299 said:...the stronger 1210...

Never, said I didn't. I voice tracked this format for three years. In fact, I reseached and entered the trivia bits that appeared in each of the automated carts in the automation system. And you forgot to mention Les Paul and Mary Ford.chrish said:Popcorn, sad you have never heard of Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Natalie Cole, Etta James, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong,
Fletcher Henderson, Lady Day, Della Reese, The Mills brothers, Diana Ross just to name a few.
We're just having a nice open dialog about radio, no need to attack anyone. Anyway, the point I made isn't against the format, it against the recycling of formats and programming that have failed down here previously. Luckily David E, understood my point I was making about the state of programming in South Florida, and not the "Music of Your Life" format itself. I hope that offers clarification, sorry that it upset you.chrish said:Its sad people open their mouth when they have no idea what they are talking about.
David Eduardo is always the logical voice of reason on this site, thanks for your continued insights, I enjoy your viewpoints, always.DavidEduardo said:No originality, just desperation.
Since the programming is mostly in overnights, I wonder who they think will listen?
At night, WOCN puts a usable signal (10 mV/m) over about 800,000 people and WEXY over less than 500,000. Or, less than a quarter of the market together. And WOCN's coverage includes a huge percentage of Hispanics, who truly have no affinity with standards.
We'll, the "middle of the road" was already tried three times and the community, regardless of race didn't support it. From a programming standpoint, I think a satellite music service of Gospel or even R&B would be a better fit. Again, talking in terms of programming and operation of a radio station, not about what music appeals to certain skin colors.chrish said:...the AM (MOYL) was very well received in the Black community. The station was the only signal that played music serving black adults of that era and they were very grateful somone was finally catering to their tastes. The word of mouth through the African American churches spread like wildfire.
Wow, thanks for putting that out there. That is great info. Thanks much!! Wow, I forgot all about WLQY...that is such a long time ago, huh. Wow. Now I feel old!!! Wait....I am old.DDV49 said:When ESPN Deportes moved to 1210,WNMA's brokered programs moved to WOCN with an LMA between MRBI and WOCN...the Music of Your Life will be on 20 MRBI stations, mostly during the overnite hours or 6pm to mid.
Now, I shall go pull out my CD's from the Mighty Clouds of Joy, the Soul Stirrers, the Dixie Hummingbirds, the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Sensational Nightingales and and Sam Cooke (who appeals to BOTH the GOPSEL and MOYL formats, as he was a one time Soul Stirrer). Haven't listened to these in a while...they are the REAL roots of rock n' roll and R&B!chrish said:music serving black adults of that era and they were very grateful somone was finally catering to their tastes.
