Music on AM and in HD

Hi,

I posted this on the SF board, but this is probably a better place for it. I have an HD radio in the car (and incidentally, am very happy with the HD performance on FM). What I would like to do is a test on an AM music station that is also in AM HD to see if it makes a difference in sound quality. But I am not sure that such an animal exists any more.

Radio Disney is a music format and has a massive committment to the technology. It is listed as being on 1310 in the SF area.

I am not overly impressed with AM HD - it greatly distorts high frequency content in the music. I wish I'd had two music formats to compare, but KAAM in my former city would never decode, even though it was 9.6 miles away. Radio Disney did much better at maintaining lock, and locks in my new Houston location, but never in stereo.

KAAM, by the way, reliably decoded in C-Quam 290 miles away in the daytime. KMKI Radio Disney reliably decoded C-Quam 330 miles away in the daytime.

Try some ads with music, the highs are artificially generated and they sound like it, they have a very synthetic sound that is hard to take for anything more than a few minutes, but if AM HD voice doesn't bother you than maybe AM HD won't either.
