Music playing on 860AM WAMO today

I noticed music and not talk on WAMO today. No Bev Smith show tonight! is the automation on because a satellite feed was down or are we back to music on AM 860 in the day. I hope so! But I do like the bev smith show.

I've seen AM 860 flip-flop between Classic Soul/R&B and Urban talk...not to mention the WAMO and WYJZ calls. You never can tell with that station. It would likely either be automated jockless, voice-tracked, or satellite. I think I can pretty much guarantee no local talent in real time. Whatever they're doing now that's new, I would hope they would market it well.

Music is playing on 860 again tonight. I wonder if their network deal (I think the syndicator was Radio One) fell apart. In any event, unless this is some massive satellite/network failure, I'd say they've changed the format again.

Personally, I would like to see 860 succeed with R&B oldies. It would mean one more successful AM station, and a better environment for listening to our two stations. The more stores open in the mall, the better.

Unfortunately, Brother Matt's name is missing from that list... :-\

I know. It was a shame to hear his voice depart from the 104.7 the Beat programming lineup. He's one of the greatest talents we have in Pittsburgh. I think he has a job outside of radio that pays substantially more (which could be just about anything :D)

Mark, I hear you every evening on WORD, before and after "Nightsounds" with Bill Pearce, which is a nightly staple in this household.

As for Brother Matt, the people in the Big Orange Building have so lost touch with him that I got a recent e-mail from somebody there asking for his phone number. Maybe they're going to hook him up with WWSW's Jammin' Oldies HD2 stream. (Excuse me while I enjoy a hearty laugh.)

Y'know, I am constantly blown away by the popularity of that show! Not as a negative comment toward the show, but in view of the tremendous variety of people who say they never miss it.

Is Brother Matt still in Pittsburgh? I drove him home several times back when I worked as a limo driver, but that was the late 90's and I've wondered if he was still there. (Not to worry, I won't mention the location even if he isn't there anymore.)

"Nightsounds" is clearly a product of its time - I get a kick out of the Ray Conniff music selections sometimes - but it's entirely unlike anything else on the radio (with the exception of WMBI, where Bill Pearce started) and I think that's one of the reasons why it continues to be so popular.

As far as I know, Brother Matt is still in town. He is doing some Internet radio and has a Web site at www.brothermatt.com.
