Music Schedulers

Looking at replacing our old scheduling system. Looking at PowerGold, Music Master, and Selector. They seem pretty equivalent - except maybe with pricing. Is that assumption correct? Any preference between these three? Should we look at someone else? Thanks

well, I used selector way back in its infancy and I can tell you that when I was looking around in case the station actually happened...I called Selector. They were really nice folks and will work with you. Try em. I always could count on them

I loved Selector back in the day, and I THINK you can barter it now. Check with your Premiere rep. That said, MusicMaster is perfect for my purposes now.

We bartered for Selector at the small-market station where I used to be PD. They got around 2-3 min. per day throughout the week. It's not easy, but it can be done in some instances.

I use Music Master for Windows. It works great and it is a buyout.

Not anymore. I inquired with them earlier this year and they wanted a yearly fee.

MusicMaster only does lease deals with new customers. If you've taken a buyout in the past and want to add additional licenses (seats), they will take buyouts. As of this date, they're $4000 a pop.

If your competition is Clear Channel-I'd stay away from the newer Selector. We still use the DOS version of Selector, CC can't access IT'S database. ;D

Hello There,

IMO BlackiesHotDogs's point needs to be considered...

I've used all the three schedulers mentioned, so "it depends":

PowerGold is a strict, statistically good performing tool: if you know the rules and count the values (sep times, points, etc) it works well. On the other hand you always need to refine your rules and database/categories to get most out of it. However because of this you can control - almost - everything; if you want.

MusicMaster is an artistic approach: with the Optimized Rules you don't need to refine the system if you add the 8th Madonna song to the same category, it handles virtually everything - if you want/set accordingly.

The data/automation import/export works better on MM, I daresay.

You can ask for trial with demo database as far as I know however it won't tell you much I'm afraid.

If you'd like to add any "extra" fields to the MM database (Year for eg) you need to phone home to apply the changes... I've never understood this.

If you're running a CHR/TOP40/HOTAC station maybe MM would be a better option due to constant changes - I'm using that for those stations. For AC/SoftAC (lot of songs, no tight rotations) I'm running PG. No Selector any more...

Best,
SIR

If you want a thorough demo of MusicMaster, you can call and they'll set up a live web session and show you around the system and demonstrate any specific functionality that concerns you. When you decide to convert you'll have a dedicated support rep who'll take time and map out all the fields you need before he converts the data. He'll usually add several "User Fields," hidden fields of different types (text, attribute, keyword, etc.) that can be unhidden and renamed to appear in any field menu. Look in your Field Editor, SirSoft; any fields in red are hidden. MusicMaster has a really comprehensive user manual in Help. All this is covered there if you've not looked. Should you really need another field, they will turn your data around in an hour if you ask them to. They just don't like people opening the data in Access, corrupting it and having real problems. One last note: I wouldn't work at a station that doesn't use MusicMaster.
