Music stations running syndicated shows vs. automated jukebox

Would I be correct in guessing that it was the 1330 outlet? It was a day-time only country operation in late 1979, wasn't on the air when I visited in 2000, and is now part of JPR's news and talk outlet. (I think it returned to the air in 2002 or 2003.)

KWCA 101.1

I was listening to Absolutely 80s a few weeks ago and there was a station shout out for a station that flipped formats in 2007!!!
ive had people listening to a vintage casey kasem show on a radio station somewhere tell me they heard a shout out to "KSKO 870 AM McGrath, Alaska" :)

I looked it up in Pete Battistini's book on American Top 40, and KSKO was a "shout out" several times. The first was July 18, 1981 when Casey welcomed them as a new affiliate ... then in the usual "heard on great radio stations like ..." included them on May 29, 1982; August 14, 1982; April 30, 1983; April 21, 1984; and May 4, 1985.

In fact, if you had been listening to an American Top 40: The 80s affiliate the weekend of May 24-25 this year, you would have heard the first of the two 1982 shout outs.

KNOM in Nome was an affiliate for many years; and I believe it still plays reruns of the shows late Saturday nights/early Sunday mornings. And though it's on AM, I don't think that KNOM was ever a commercial station--not much to advertise in Nome.

Then again, come to think of it, McGrath was ever big enough to have much of an advertising base so I expect that when KSKO was running the original shows from 1979 onward, it was a noncommercial outlet as it is today (though on FM now).

@ted chittenden Trust me, I know KSKO was non commercial in 1981, that is still is today and is now on FM instead of AM. IT's always been a public/community station

Because it was AM at the time, it's possible they could still air commercials.

My college station was a non-profit AM that ran commercials.

You can be a non profit and own a commercial station. You can't be commercial and own a non pcommercial AM

KSKO has always been licensed as a non commercial station.

What college, @TheBigA ?
