Music Tweak at WBOS

I'm not sure this is newsworthy...but they seem to be adding a lot more Hot AC-type tracks into the playlist. Today I heard Rob Thomas' "Lonely No More" twice, as well as "Why Can't I" by Liz Phair, "Drift Away" by Uncle Kracker, "It's My Life" by No Doubt, and yesterday I heard "Someday" by Nickleback. Yet, they also played "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel, "My My Hey Hey" by Neil Young, and "Desperado" by the Eagles.

I understand that the whole point of AAA is to play a wide range of music and not stick to one specific genre, and I don't want to the chorus of BOS-bashing (I actually do like the station) but this is really a bit off-the-wall.

Most of the above (and other) Hot AC leaning tracks have been part of the 'BOS library for the last few years. If it tests, and I'm sure all the above do, they play it with little regard for whatever we think the AAA brand is or should be. IMHO, its a big part of the reason they are consistently the lowest rated Class B in Boston. Pick and stick - stand for something. Rock? Not Rock? Musically credible? Mainstream hits? All of the above? Who knows...

At least WBOS has the guts to "get out of the box" and expose its listeners to something a little different? [How many music stations are willing to take a chance on anything...unless it shows up in the top 50 of BILLBOARD?].

Personally, I've enjoyed Liz Phair and her music for several years...and I'm DEFINITELY NOT PART OF THE DEMOGRAPHIC that she's supposed to appeal to!

I have been noticing that BOS's music has been becoming more diverse in general breaking the so-called format lines.

Is John Laurenti responsible for this "tweek"? He knows his music and could just be trying to expand thae station.
