Music Videos on websites

Ok, so I know you have to pay to be able to stream your station. But...

I am working on a website for a weekly show that I do that right now is just on one station, but there's a possility of getting on a few more. Every once in a while, I get sent music videos through digital servicing. Now the radio small fries would never dream about matching the content and "1000s of videos on demand" that Clear Channel offers, but if I wanted to have some videos available to stream on my website, do I have to go to each label individually and ask for permission to put their videos up?

I hope this is the right board for this...

First, if you are getting "digital service," does that mean "legal" or "illegal" dowloading? If it is "legal," just because you "bought" the video from a "syndicated service," you still must pay ASCAP, BMI & SESAC royalties, as well as a SoundExchange royalty, as well.

Videos are priced higher royalty-wise and you might want to go back to your "supplier" and ask if there were any "mechanical licensing fees" paid for "fair use" of the videos online. (Probably, not. It's the responsibility of the "end user" to pay "public performance fees" for any display, performance or broadcast (which a music video is, online or on-air.)

You then need to go to the label and/or the artist management for that "copyright protection" which translates to a "license" fee on top of all the above ... pretty expensive.

Worth getting caught? I wouldn't think so, not without everything in place. Better than taking a chance. Remember, you have nothing to lose by asking permission. You have a minimum several thousand by not doing so and getting caught... Good luck.
