Musical chairs at the sports stations

Things must have been pretty dismal at Centex Homes for Elf to throw all his eggs in the Fan basket.

If he was drive time or mid days material, The Ticket would have put him on during the week.

I enjoyed Elf on Sundays....but he and Josh might get schmeared until they are extra, extra crispy.

Hmmm.....

Heard a veiled reference to a departed Tard Archer yesterday but didn't know what was up. Guy was a Cincy retread who never did anything for me so, yeah, okay.

As for Elf..........this is blasphemy. I've loved him on Sunday mornings for years but there were two reasons why. First, not much else on the radio on Sunday AM. Second, he was the kind of schtick I could take for probably only one day a week. Nice, no doubt, but he'll have to change his radioing quite a bit to do a regular daily AND have a co-host. Don't know if he'll be the same Elf we know and like after that.

Like most weekenders at the Ticket, there's a reason for it. They have nice one-day-a-week programs that soon run out of steam if you try to ring too much out of them. The list is long.

New Sunday morning Ticket show? Cirque de Sirroy (sp) who they've been test flying for a few months now?

I agree w/ the statement that Elf was a solid once a week guy. I enjoyed his old guy round tables. Does it really matter? I stream 1310 at work ALL day & never even look 105.3's way. Only time I tune to 105.3 is in the evening during college football Tuesday & during commercial breaks. THEN I still have to listen to lame ass Cybil or boring RW.

I'm kinda surprised about the Elf news, he didn't sound like he'd rather find greener pastures. Agreed, Sundays definitely won't be the same. Oh, well, the Ticket has survived bigger jumpers and newsbits than this. Sorry, Elf, but you had more future on Maple than you ever will at 75/Fitzhugh.

That would be 'Sirois' but who's counting....

DMN Cowboys writer and KTCK "Ranch Report" reporter Todd Archer moves over to ESPNDallas.com and, no doubt, KESN.

During the Musers this morning, they had a new Ranch Reporter from the Young Street Paper (forgot his name already) and mentioned that Todd Archer had gone on to other opportunities (without mentioning them specifically). I figured Todd was another victim of a purge at Dallas' last daily (at first, before I saw this ESPN news).

There's a line in one of the Observer stories (either Wilonsky's or Whitt's) that his day job was with Centex Homes. In this economy, with the glut of foreclosures on the market, selling brand new houses probably isn't that great of a job anymore.

Reading between the lines, I wouldn't be suprised if the Fan is a greener pasture than Centex. And if it (The Fan) doesn't work out, he can probably get a job with DR Horton, David Weekly, etc.

The Great David Moore is the new Ranch Reporter.
I miss him on the NBA beat. David is a great NBA Beat Reporter!!!!!

Thanks, east, I have tried to figure out how they spell their name (not terribly hard, mind you) and never knew.

As for Elf working for CenTex, I knew he had a "day job" but I didn't realize it was that. Man, those guys must be fighting over bones in this market. Definitely, an offer from 105.3 of a regular pay check might very well have been greener pastures compared to what he had goin' on.

Oh well, being said, I still don't know what kind of shelf-like "Lewin & Elf" really has. I like them both just fine but....chemistry?.....content?........draw?

Yeah- Elf is a key part of my Sunday morning, but I can't see changing my weekday listening habits to catch him on 105.3.

Like Ben and Skin, I'm not sure the Elf has 15 hours of content a week in him. I guess we'll see.

BTW - has anyone noticed that all the local CBS entities have merged their websites into one very crappy web presence for CBS 11, TXA 21, The Fan, and KRLD? I know synergy is a big buzzword and that cross-promotion is a grand idea, but CBS has executed poorly.

The end result really waters down any sense of brand identity and the whole architecture feels like it was designed by money-grubbing corporate whores who don't really get what it is they are trying to sell. It is cold, sterile, and boring. And that's about as nice as I can put it.

I noticed that the other day when I first started seeing the 'cbsdfw.com' domain change on Ch.11's news. I guess somebody (more in the case of the TV stations' website) didn't get the if-it-isn't-broke-don't-fix-it memo. Especially in the wake of the mess NBC has made with Ch.5's website.

5 day a week paying weekday gig > 1 day a week non-paying Sunday gig.

If Elf's gig at the Fan doesn't pan out, I'm sure the Ticket will let him come back. It's not like getting paid $50 a pop to work Sunday mornings is some coveted time slot.

That being said, I dig what the Fan has done so far. Josh/Elf have piqued my interest enough to make me flip between them and Bad Radio, and RAGE has given me an alternative where I never again have to tune into the "icepick to the forehead" the Hardline has become.

If home sales turn around in the next 12-18 months, that should time out well with his Fan departure.

There is a genius "higher up" in CBS that believes that the way for CBS to rock on the web, is to have (1) CBS website in each market and all their local properties driving traffic to that site.

IMHO - Completely stupid. beyond stupid. Each franchise should have a companion site conveying information about that brand. Beyond that they should build websites for the web with things people want on the web. If you want to be a great online local news pub, great. be one. but why do you shut down CBS 11, and KLUV.com to do it? CBS is doing this nationally. They need to stop thinking like a tv and radio company if they want to compete on the internet.

Bringing tomorrows failed ideas today, we are CBS.
