MusicFirst's new tactics

What areas present vulnerability on the MusicFirst side of the equation? I would think that game could work both directions. Challenges to their fiduciary integrity in distributing the funds, etc. We hear over and over these tales of how recording artists have been treated shabbily through the years by the recording industry. There has to be some "soft underbelly" in there somewhere.

The NAB has already pointed out how many artists have sued their labels for back royalties. They have also pointed out how SoundExchange has mishandled the digital royalties. This is a discussion where everyone's positions have been expressed in full detail. I think everyone's opinions are solidified on Capitol Hill, so there won't be any movement here. Radio companies still have to work with these labels every week, play new songs and new artists, and no one wants to burn any bridges. From radio's side, it's all being handled by the NAB, rather than station ownership. From the label side it's all being fought by MusicFirst rather than artists directly. They still want airplay, and radio still wants music. You use me, I use you. No one wants to blow that up yet.

The problem is the unity that exists within the music industry. Even though artists are being screwed every day, they aren't breaking from the coalition. Even though songwriters stand to lose in this process, they're keeping quiet. That unity doesn't exist among radio. So it's a very tough nut to crack.
