Not trying to be redundant here, but I posted this in "Classic Hits" as well - might have more appeal here though.

This online station recreates WLS with music and commercials (jingles too!) of the 1970's. Just discovered this today, and it sounds pretty AWESOME! I didn't find this mentioned in any previous postings, so I don't know how new this is - maybe I'm just late to this one.

Give it a listen!!!

I was more of a fan of WCFL, especially during the Draper era. Are there any similar sites for "The Voice of Labor?"

I wonder what the temperature is at Marina City?

I don't know of any, but I've just been stumbling across crazy things on internet radio lately. I will most definitely post one if I ever find one!

I can't get the whole page to load.

While I was waiting, I checked. The temperature in Marina City is 38 degrees.

I miss the bowling alley at Marina City. :'(

Not bad. Not bad at all. A very worthy effort IMHO. Personally I'd also like to see a '60s recreation of either WLS or WCFL.

Hopefully we'll see more of this sort of thing. We already have re-creations of WFIL and KYA, not to mention a "classics" version of KRTH. Then there are actual old tapes/airchecks of KXOK and WQAM. Perhaps we'll see a few more from the "golden age" of top 40 a.m. radio online. I nominate WTIX, CHUM, and WHBQ as a few I'd like to see brought back.

Totally agree. A recreation of the great Top 40 stations of the 60s is a wonderful idea.
WLS, WCFL, WABC, WMCA, KHJ, KRLA, KFWB, WDGY, WIXY, WFUN, KYA and on & on.

WELLLLLLL!!!!

.....IIRC, there are some vintage episodes of Chickenman that play on the KXOK channel on Live 365. (The channel may only be available for premium members, however.)

I wish someone would do a recreation of WFYR after they went Soft Adult-Contemp.

OLD CHICAGO

With a few stations on the AM band switching to the oldies, I would love to see one here in Chicago. Would be fun to see 560 WIND back to playing 50-60-70 and 80's. Fred doinging morning drive, Connie afternoons, Biondi evenings!

Great idea for WIND, but I don't think Salem will get out of the talk radio business in Chicago, but I'd love to hear WIND playing oldies. The ratings would be better than anything they've got going now.
Can you imagine hearing Dick Biondi's Friday night Request show again?

What you'd most like to hear on the radio is what no one will permit.
How bout some Fleetwood Mac or some more Zeppelin?

Amen to that! Which is why a lot of us have our own stations. Don't we Tom? :)

100% agree. But as I've alluded before, my take on Salem is that their stations all have a political and/or religious agenda. Pop music formats....past or present....don't fit either.

All Salem has to do is look at the (very few) AM oldies stations in PPM markets and realize that there is no salable audience for such a format.

A good example is KRWZ in Denvery. If we project KRWZ's revenue share to the larger Chicago market, they would bill less than WIND's current billing.

So, for WIND it would be higher costs, an unfamiliar format and lower revenue.

(And KRWZ benefited from a translator for much of last year... so 2013 may be a very down year for them. )

To clarify....my "100% agree" comment refers to my own personal taste. Or perhaps I should use the word "fantasy".

I understand that "classic WIND" would be all but impossible from a business standpoint. For Salem or anybody else. But, hypothetically, even if it were a viable option...I still stand by my comment from the standpoint that Salem wouldn't be the ones to attempt it.

It's too bad Lincoln Financial didn't restore the "KIMN" call letters to the 950 spot. It would not have made a difference probably, but for us "old-timers" 95 KIMN would have been nice to hear just one more time...
