Must be a WRAL Board

Seems like there is no pulse here on the Raleigh Greensboro Board--does everyone here work at WRAL? What happened to that station anyway? It is the most boring station on the dial, my goodness they promote they are doing the weather next; that will keep me listening. If that isn't exciting enough how about the promo that points to all the changes in the market...who is the unstoppable programmer (or consultant) who tells their audience that there have been changes on other radio stations? I Love L.A. by Randy Newman was the song that took it to the hoop for me...it's too bad this station is getting a boob job--KISS is ok but has no legs-especially with that Whoopi thing, Shari and what's his name sound like they mail it in everyday. What gives? Wondering downeast.

If 1061 does change what do you think it will be my bets are on active/modern rock. What are the roosters ratings anyway seeing as everyone i know listens 94.7.
Until clearchannel pulls their heads out of their ass and gives us what this market needs im stickin with 96Rock

either alt. rock or perhaps a hot AC to go up against MIx101-5.

and anyone know when FM Talk 101.1 WZTM started to play heavy metal/hard rock around 12am ??
-i was oing throught the dial, and heard at least two songs on there that sounded like Disturbed and possibly Rob Zombie?

.weird.

It's just Handelman getting his rocks off, old boy. Nothing to be concerned about.

Hot AC? Lord, I think there's plenty of AC in Raleigh. I don't know if I would put a Hot AC in the same building as a brand new Rythmic AC and a Top 40. Too much of the same thing. I don't know if my lunch could handle another AC.

WRAL is definitely not what some claim it is. Though reliable, they’re only reliable because they partner with WRAL-TV; though that alone makes them worthy, it doesn’t excuse anything. As I said, coverage is always reliable, but it’s almost always a simulcast of the TV, and nothing truly spectacular at that. There's no energy or life on that station.

Morning show sucks. Discussions on the best Chicken Salad in Raleigh segmenting into the moods of the family dog based on the position of its tale followed by a discussion on shoes do *not* pass as entertainment. I know it’s what practically all AC station’s morning teams are made up of, but morning shows drain the human brain of any intelligence whatsoever. But then again, simple minds enjoy boring and simple talk.

Bring back the old River. Or if nothing else, fire morning personalities and play music all morning.

Bring back "FBI" and "The TAC"!!!!!!! to WRAL

Does anyone know what TAC stood for and where he is now? ???
I know "Famous Bob" is a full time Minister.

Thanks,
Stuart ;D

Um, I do believe the word you're looking for is "co-owned"...

I remember when FBI was on the air 24/7 with that old automation system. Weren't they out on Six Forks Road?

WRAL-FM was on one of the upper floors of what used to be the BTI building on Six Forks Road. I believe the Hit Parade taped format and the Schafer 800 automation were first started from Western Blvd at the TV building. Wally Voigt was in charge of the radio operations and the Tobacco Network at the time. Somewhere about then, or maybe a few years later, WTQR in Winston-Salem achieved great ratings success running the Drake-Chenault "Great American Country" taped format. Bob Kingsley post announced the currents. Lots of details about those old Drake automated formats here:

Forgot to mention: These days FBI serves as associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church on capitol square downtown Raleigh.

Those old Schafer Automation systems were pretty reliable - maybe more so than some of today's digital stuff! I remember having to program carousels with the diode pins! Talk about blinding work!

Here's my question....if you hate the chicken salad story or whatever MIX is talking about then why do you listen? Just from this board, I take that you are a male and if you're a male that enjoys listening to Bill & Sheri then you might need to have your panties checked at the door. I think WRAL does a great job for what it is..catering to 35-54 year old soccer moms.

Oh man. I remember one of this type of automation systems. I hated to program those. Those tiny pins would fall on the floor and roll under the automation rack and you could never get them out. And the carts would always get stuck in the carousel. I remember working one Saturday morning in the early 70's doing a live show on the AM while the FM ran from the automation. The phone rang and it was one of the advertisers. He told me he had bought about 25 commercials for that weekend on the FM. He said he thought the spots would be spread out over the entire weekend. I told him I was sure they would be, why do you ask? Because, he said, I have been sitting here listening to my spot play over and over for the past 10 minutes. The cart had become stuck in the carousel and was just playing continuously. I assured him that we wouldn't count all of those plays.

You assume that I do in fact regularly listen, that I’m a male, and that I’m a male that enjoys the show. For the record, my previous statement indicated just how much I enjoy the show; did you not catch that? Perhaps Mix does cater to soccer moms, but without being in the target audience I can still adequately form my own opinion of the show and morning shows like it in general.

Maybe you disagree with my assessment that that type of show is dull and boring, but I can hardly see how something like “you might need to have your panties checked at the door” relevantly fits into the discussion at all.

If this really is a 'RAL board why no mention of the incoming PD? The word is he is out of Lexington, Kentucky where he was canned by Clear Channel. Inside rumblings from MIX say the GM there is on the hot seat with falling sales and ratings at MIX and a disaster at 99.9. She isn't well liked in or out of the building. Anyone heard anything?
