Must carry question

Only have basic cable. My cable system (Charter) carries all of the locals in HD in addition to the Weather Channel. Several subchannels are also carried (NBC Weather Plus, Universal Sports, LATV, WFAA 8.2)

Just wondering if 'must carry' rules cover sub channels also? I'd love to get PBS World from KERA. Now on 13.2

I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but thought some of yall here might have more insight into the legalities of it all than I do.

No, only one subchannel is must-carry, and that's usually the primary (x.1). Any other subchannels are optional, but if there is a demand for that subchannel, or the local affiliate/O&O has pull with the cable company, you will sometimes see more than one. Generally, if an affiliate has to go the must-carry route, they don't have sufficient influence to get any of their other subchannels carried, as they had to use a legal method to just getting one feed carried.
