NBC Thursday is All Drama for the First Time Since 1980
Come February, NBC's famous Thursday night lineup will be all dramas for the first time since the 1979-1980 season. The idea is to take some chunk of viewership out of the Shonda Rhimes​ lineup (Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder). Good luck with that, guys.

Truthfully, it was ipso facto dead a long time ago.

A sitcom did not appear on NBC Thursday night before the 1982-1983 season: Cheers at 9:00 and Taxi at 9:30. The following season was the first with sitcoms until 10pm, followed by dramas (Hill Street Blues, LA Law, ER).

Actually, NBC aired sitcoms on Thursday night (although not in a block most of the time) far before that. "Hazel", and some short lived ones like "The Hero". Closer to your estimate, though, 1981-82 was the first of the many seasons they appeared more regularly with "Diff'rent Strokes" airing at 9:00 (it had been on Wednesdays at the same time) followed by then-newcomer "Gimme a Break!" at 9:30.

In any case, this is the season where traditions are broken - "Scorpion" is the first EVER program that aired on CBS at 9pm Mondays that is not a comedy.
