Muzak beats radio to the hits

From this month's edition of Rich Appel's e-zine "Hz So Good":

Pick to 'Click': Used to be I never had to think about where I first heard any song, the answer was always the same -- the radio. These days, though, with AOL First Listen, downloading, BET and Fuse, clubs, One Tree Hill and singing magazine inserts, just about anyplace can break a hit. I've loved Click Five's irresistible slice o'Pop "Just the Girl" all summer, but I wouldn't have heard it until just recently if I hadn't crossed the street one Saturday afternoon. To get out of a pouring rain, I ran into a deli, and that's where I first heard "Just the Girl," on a hit-based muzak service. Does this reflect badly on radio? You bet it does, since more stations should have played "Just the Girl" right out of the carton.

Boston Store Racine, WI

Womans Section/Cosmetics: Soft AC
Juniors/Teens: CHR
Mens: Not sure. I don't buy clothes at Boston Store (AKA Carsons) so I didn't visit that part of the store.

:)

Boston Store is the ONLY department store I ever been in that 1. Plays CHR 2. Has different genres of Muzak in each department.

The CHR that they have playing over the PA is the only thing that keeps me from falling asleep when shopping with my sisters in that section of the store. And they are very good at playing new songs first.
