Muzak

I was in a Rose's but didn't ask the source of their music. I didn't know they even had any left in my area. The store looked like an old-style KMart.

Several of the songs sounded to be like they belong on hot AC but they are probably mainstream AC. I did hear "Kiss on My List" by Hall & Oates and "Right Down the Line" by Gerry Rafferty, so it would have been mainstream AC at worst.

I mentioned a grocery store that has different styles of music provided by the corporate office (though I don't know the source). They were playing mainstream AC and I heard "Overkill" by Men at Work. I haven't heard that one in years.

At my own store which is probably FM-1, two Saturdays ago,
Mike + the Mechanics "All I Need Is a Miracle"
Carly Simon "The Right Thing to Do"
Bryan Adams "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman"

This past Saturday I only recognized "Hungry Heart" by Bruce Springsteen. I heard the words "stitch me up" and "love power" (in a duet between a man and woman).

That probably was "Stitch Me Up" by Herbie Hancock featuring John Mayer.

I misread your description. That happens. (Although come to think of it, I did hear a concert record of "Hungry Heart" once with Bruce singing a duet! It wasn't on FM1. But I digress.) But your "love power" duet was probably (since I wasn't actually listening to Foreground Music 1 at the time) "Love Power" by Dionne & Jeffrey. It gets a LOT of play on FM1:

Edit: Since Sony have apparently decided to raise cain about anyone *not* playing it on the full Youtube site (Allah forbid), I begrudgingly have to post this link instead. (Just remember to Trash Your Cache and delete ALL your cookies before and after using this or any other G??gl?-related site):

Great song.....a song that is obviously avoided by radio and those 80's weekends, for some unknown reason. As much as I like "Down Under"....it wasn't their only hit.

When was the last time we all heard "Be Good Johnny" or "It's a Mistake" on radio?? Probably the great music year of......1983

"Be Good Johnny" never became a single, to the best of my knowledge. I remember my local FM top 40 playing it in early '83 right after "Down Under" had run its course, so I was thinking, "hmmm, next single." But instead, the "Men" went on to the Cargo album and released "Overkill" as the first single from that second album. So needless to say, my local FM almost immediately dropped "Be Good Johnny" like a hot potato, and never touched it again! ::) I think the Men missed a potential third hit from Business As Usual by skipping over "Be Good Johnny" and going on to "Overkill."

Can we request some Frank Chacksfield, or a deep cut from Horst Jankowski?
They have a channel with those artists.

As for this past weekend at my store:

Strong but depressed female vocalist who almost sounds like she's crying
Female vocalist and partner with banjo (this one sounded pretty good, actually)
"Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty

And there was one more I would know if I heard it. I just had too much stuff to remember and need to start writing this stuff down.

In the store where I heard "Overkill" (I think) I heard "Bad Day". That is a bad day.

FM1 recent adds:

3 songs by Al Stewart "Time Passages", "Year of the Cat" & "Song on the Radio"- all are album versions.

"Things We Do For Love" 10CC
"Saturday in the Park" Chicago
"You're the Inspiration" Chicago
"She's Gone" Hall & Oates

Glad they are adding more 70's and 80's lately!

Was it "Maybe I'm Amazed"?... There is a banjo version out there on Muzak with a lady singing. The group is Jem (2004).

I heard "You're The Only Woman" by Ambrosia in Bi-Lo the other day. I haven't heard that song in ages. After that I heard "Just Go" by Lionel Richie/Akon from several years ago, another one that was forgotten. I don't know what service they use, but I also heard "I've Been Searchin' So Long" by Chicago recently as well, another one you rarely hear. Pretty good older mix, whatever they use.

Heard a story that Al Stewart was in an elevator and heard this terrible song. Then he realized it was his own "Time Passages"......

It's a matter of taste. I like that song and artist. Saw a great live clip of him on youtube singing "Like A Song On The Radio"..totally forgot about that song.

If they added "On The Border" and "Midnight Rocks", then they'd have all of Al's hit singles in their playlist.

Al's backing musicians and singers briefly formed their own group called "Shot in the Dark" and put out one single, "Playing With Lightning", which barely squeaked into the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981. Great song, but never heard anymore!!

I keep thinking I'll remember songs or lyrics I hear.

Anyway, these are from the past two weeks.

Two weeks ago:

"Ain't Nobody" by Chaka Khan
"You Can't Hurry Love" Phil Collins
"Just the Way You Are" (not the Billy Joel song)
Lyrics: What I am repeated over and over with a lot of annoying noises, "that's my dog" or "says my dog"

This past weekend:

"You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates

Female vocalist--I do I do I do lyrics at the very end (no, it was not ABBA)

There was a really wild song which I think I posted lyrics from before bt didn't see them today. I'll try again.
