Muzak

There's a grocery store I don't usually go to which was playing "Things Can Only Get Better". The music mix seems a lot like what I hear at my usual store.

"More Than Words" played at my usual store.

There were three songs I recognized in my usual grocery store. One I don't know the title of, by Mariah Carey or someone who sings notes so high only dogs can hear them, has the word "emotion" in it. The others were "Josie" and "Rubberband Man".

This past weekend, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues", "Games People Play", and a song done by a male vocalist in the annoying style of too many Christian singers with the words "fathers" and "daughters". And I may have heard "The Longest Time" but I'm not sure.

At my usual store, I have this memory of a newer version of "Brown Eyed Girl" ever since I found out there was such a song.

This past Saturday at that store: "Hungry Heart" and a song whose tune resembles "Start Me Up" except it's more like "Start me start me up up, start me start me up up".

At a store that sells the soap I like (though they were out yesterday and I'm hoping that's temporary) and the cheese crackers I like and saltines I also like, I heard a really loud beat and wish I had stayed around to hear lyrics but I couldn't stay in that store one more minute and chose to go to a nearby store instead. I also heard something that sounded like Hootie and the Blowfish and did recognize lyrics but forgot them. I also heard a newer version of a song that could have been "Solid". What I remember most clearly was "Mockingbird", and "Go Your Own Way" was playing as I did just that.

Steel Pulse- Brown Eyed girl is the remake that is playing on FM1. They also play Mockingbird by Carly Simon and James Taylor and also Hootie and the Blowfish- "I will Wait". We also hear Asford and Simpson- Solid. Have no idea about the Start up one.
Vchimpanzee do you go to the store early Morning I work until 10 AM on Saturday, if you go to your store before that I will make notes. Going through all your old posts I am very sure your regular store has FM1.

I don't know where the music comes from in that second store, but I don't go there often, and it's usually around lunchtime. As for my usual store, I do go before 10 so I can get back for "Car Talk".

This past Saturday, 'The Year of the Cat", a Carribean-sounding song for which I thought I would remember the lyrics, and one of these songs by a female vocalist who could be either Norah Jones or Colbie Caillat (I just heard "Bubbly" on Dial Global standards, incidentally) who sounds like she's enjoying herself too much on a fun song. Think Meg Ryan early in that famous "When Harry Met Sally" scene.

Here are some of what I heard this morning after we opened. When I remembered.
7:10 George Michael and Aretha Franklin- "I knew you were waiting for me"
Bess Rogers- "What we want"
7:20 Blues Traveler- "Run-Around
7:25 Lionel Ritchie-" Dancing on the ceiling"
7:30 The Shins- "Phantom Limb"
7:45 Tears for fears- "Head over Heels"
7:48 Plain White T's- "1234"
7:50 James Taylor "Up on the roof"
8:00 Poco- "Heart of the Night"
Michele Branch- "Breath"
8:15 Sarah Harmer- "Careless"
Walter Egan- "Magnet and Steel"
8:30 Alicia Keys - "No One"
Christopher Cross- "Sailing"
8:37 Sarah Mclachlan- "Illusion of Bliss"
Debarge- "Time will reveal"
8:46 Angie Aparo- "Sweet Lorreta"
Joni Mitchell- "Free Man in Paris"
Mat Kearney- " Closer to Love"
Eric Clapton- "Change your World"
Crosby Stills and Nash- " Our House"
9:11 Brandon Heath- "You Decide"
9:15 U2- "With or without you"

Then I had to go and unload a very very early truck so missed the rest, punched out at 9:53. did hear Colbie caillat "Brand new Me" before the store opened.

Lord Zedd, your list definitely sounds like FM-1....

I really wish they'd get rid of that horrible version of "I Want Your Back", absolutely not the Jackson 5.

Nice to hear the Al Stewart music though...

Yes it is FM1 no doubt about that been checking the playlist for years. I think Sheryl Crow does a fine job on the Jackson 5 song.

Are these times Eastern?

I went on a long walk so I didn't get back for U2 if they were played, and I left before Colbie. The only song I recognized was "Don't Get Me Wrong".

Boy, vchimpanzee, did FM1 throw in a wildcard. I know who Mat Kearney and Brandon Heath are. Mat's been mainstream for several years. But this is the first time I've heard Brandon mentioned on a mainstream station (even though it's Muzak).

Terrible song and sung off tune, especially the last 30 seconds, when "I Want Your Back" is sung. 0/10, sorry. Jackson Five: 10/10

When I heard that song, I was wishing I could hear it at full volume. I know some people who oppose my point of view try to say that's what they all want, but there are only a few songs in the AC format that I enjoy this much. Besides, "Year of the Cat" has that screaming guitar and I was glad I couldn't hear it clearly.

"Minute by Minute" and "You're So Vain" at my usual grocery, though I think those were played on two separate weeks. I don't know if I'll ever find where I wrote down what played when.

I know KMart (whose source I don't know) was playing music so loud I had to leave with just the one product I came in for. They did take a credit card for less than $2. The only clue I have about one of the songs was the word "Ashanti" spoken.

At another grocery the music was also too loud but I was relieved when Cee-Lo's "Forget You" came on. Followed by "You Raise Me Up". I used to hate that one but I just don't like touchy-feely Christian music. As music, though, that one is great.
