MVP SPORTS ON FM

Is this true? I have been hearing many rumors that Bonneville Broadcasting has renovated a production studio to become 620 KTAR. Of course the 860 KMVP is brokered.

860 will adopt the call letters KMVA-AM and 97.5 will be moving into the studios at Bonneville with the new call letters KMVP-FM "97.5 MVP SPORTS"

So what happens to 620? I have heard a billion rumors that we will soon see a new "Classic Superhits" format. Bonneville will now have Adult Hits, News/Talk and Sports/Talk stations.

This would definitely be a great move for both 97.5 and Bonneville, but we haven't heard anything about Trumper Communications selling the station to Bonneville. I think 620 could be quite successful as a "Classic Superhits" station or an oldies station, similar to KRWZ 950 AM in Denver. Very interesting rumors indeed!

The big question is: What's the source? ???

And what about the aforementioned registration of hot975phoenix.com? Or did Trumper/someone just do that to throw us radio nerds off track?

It's got the Buckeye Boyz seal of approval as long as they keep 6~Twenty in simulcast mode a good portion of the time. 97~Five is a rimshot signal and has a bunch of weak areas where TMISU need 6~Twenty. As far as call letters go, we never understood why they kept the KT'R calls on AM when the programming moved to 92~Three. MVP could be used, but an actual handle (The Sports Hog, The Ticket, etc) would fit a sports format better. Now the question Nurse Jeff and I are asking: is this a sale or LMA? As a rimshot it may not be worth what Trumper owes. As an LMA he can continue to service the debt and hold out for the resale market to improve.

620 could switch formats AND still break away for the PBP contracts that require the full-market signal. They could open up the "simulcast mode" by implementing 92.3 HD3, which I'm surprised they haven't done that with Sports 620 (hey, if KDUS can be enjoyed on the FM by the 12 HD Radio owners in the Phoenix metro, why not 620? :D)

Until this could be proven fact and not just a rumor, I'm not celebrating yet.

I'm one of the 12. They used to have Sports 620 simulcast on HD2 before it went to the religious channel it is now.

Hey catfish (with a "c")--do you know if/when Gumpdusky will put Lumberyard 1440
on on of its FM HD subchannels? Will the Goldmine play all night there? Oooh, and
will the legal ID be different during the day vs. at night, and how will the AM side of
KAZG sign-off...the same way as now? :D

I have 3 HD radios in the house, an HD mini radio that Best Buy sells and HD in my car..

Sounds like a monopoly to Nurse Jeff and me! catfish (no capital C) has five of the 12 HD radios in the market. We're calling Barney Frank and Chris Dodd to investigate as this is not good for diversity ;) ;)

AGREED!!! Who said this is happening? Is Trumper in fact selling or LMAing to B'ville? Seems like we went down this road before when we were discussing Bonneville purchasing CBS Phoenix. We know where that went! ???

It's as reputable as the report that Bonneville was buying the CBS cluster and would take KZON all sports.

Just because the Mormon Church has oodles of cash on hand, it doesn't mean they want to spend it.

4 people x 3, yup thats 12 HD radios in the Phoenix area!! One of the biggest flops in the last several years for sure! 8)

No, the HD legal would be combined with the AM one, but you'd hear it, assuming it was 24/7 on the HD channel. ;) You'd finally get to hear what happens with the Goldmine after the AM carrier drops! Heh.

While we're dreaming, a sure sign of the end of the world would be streaming audio for everyone's favorite Goldmine.

My point exactly! If anyone bought the CBS cluster and flipped 101.5, it seems they'd be blowing up a profitable station.

Bonneville has lots of cash and IMHO, it doesn't make sense to simulcast Sports 620 on 97.5. B'ville will bide their time and wait for the opportunity to take Sports 620 to a South Mountain stick that easily covers the entire valley. :)
