Yeah but does it come with a wooden box? No wooden box..no money from me.

I am REALLY piqued about the Cascade C77. Take a look at that dude..It gleams, and shines..really cool to look at..and it's a ribbon mic..Might be a fun trial huh Chuck?

I've never used a ribbon mic.... pros? cons?

How about this art deco one? Just $299.... http://www.cascademicrophones.com/cascade_731R.html

What a great site... also found this from Universal Audio http://www.cascademicrophones.com/Universal Audio_DCS_Remote_preamp.html

I'm not a fan of ribbons. They're very, very smooth...Too smooth for my taste. There's no 'oomph' at all. They make nice mics for narration and they have a musical quality for sung vocals. They can also handle extremely high SPL levels, which makes them good for bass and guitar cabs. If you want a lifeless, plain (but clean and detailed) sound, ribbons can be a good choice.

On the downside, most typical pres won't do them justice because they require a huge amount of gain. You really need a ribbon pre. They're also not rugged at all. A drop, phantom power or a plosive blast will ruin the mic.

Rewind to 2000. a local radio station was selling "sweet deal" on a vintage RCA 77DX ribbon mic. Beautiful! But, as Emmet said it had, like "no" ouptut so I added a Universal 610 preamp (previously used with a Neumann U87)

(((PffffffTT!))))

Yup..phantom was on!

Mic no more
