My 106.1?

It's kind of sad that no one noticed it... but changes already at 106.1... as they change from Philly's 106.1 to My 106.1. Music seems the same... but I wouldn't have known if it wasn't reported on AllAccess.

Why the change? The only thing that I can think of is a challenge from Radio One for the Philly name? When 103.9 flipped from WDRE... it was originally Philly 103.9.

That's the only reason I can think of.

There used to be a radio station on 106.1, but they moved to 97.5. But there couldn't be a radio station at 106.1 now or somebody would be listening to it.

Shot in the dark #1: Radio One is still claiming the "Philly" name with 100.3 (as WPHI) with Arbitron since that can be traced back to Philly 103.9. It wasn't too long ago that The Shark 103.7 in Atlantic City was still claiming the Sunny name from its previous format, even though it was no longer Sunny 103.7.

Shot in the dark #2: No one specifically owns the "Philly" name in broadcasting (no direct trademark violations), but hundreds of people have trademarked "Philly" with something. Maybe one of them had a problem with Clear Channel using the name.

Other than that, I can't think of any reason why a station would keep the same format with the same DJ's and change it's name only months after hitting the air. Think of all of the promotional stuff that needs to be redone!

The MY moniker was used disasterously in the Lehigh Valley a couple of years ago. MY 100.7 was a total flop. And expensive one, too. They spent thousands on a new MY 100.7 logo, key chains, stickers etc. and in less than one year or so the dropped the MY 100.7 and became Soft Rock 100.7. By the way, they are something else today. The term MY is terrible because it doesn't describe the new format at all. "WHOOPIE'S 106.1" would be an improvement.

I don't know if radio one complianed or not, but my1061.com domain was owned by CC before the flip (along with channel1061.com I think) So this name was considered at one point anyway.

My106.1 is better anyway. Both aren't names for a station, but atleast my sounds decent when saying. Philly's 106.1 sounded like what the heads of CC referred to it. "Hey carl, do you have a name for Philly's 1061 yet"

EDIT: This change must've just happened today anyway. The website main banner is changed, but everyother logo still has Philly's 106.1

People...its almost 2007...stop living in the past. The Eagle is NEVER coming back and if it did, it wouldnt be the same for you anyway. That's what memories are for.

Your half right. CC did bring back Sunny, so you can never say something is never coming back. However, much like Sunny, it wouldn't be the same.

I was trying to figure out why CC would make this change so soon, too, and both scenarios I could think of ultimately point to CC not wanting to lose more money than a rebranding costs:

Either they were threatened legally by some other entity with a similar name (shades of Z100 changing it's name almost immediately to Y100 after launch)

or

the more likely scenario, despite the alleged launch of PPM in Philly:
CC felt that people were confusing it with the old Philly 100.3 and writing that down in diaries instead. Something similar happened in Los Angeles a few years back when Hot 92.3 launched on the same signal that 92.3 The Beat used to be on (before moving down the dial to 100.3), and listeners were writing Hot 92.3 The Beat in diaries... so CC added the word Jamz, making them Hot 92 Jamz. (Ironically, Hot 92 Jamz has been kicking a** lately and 100.3 The Beat just changed their name to V100.3 this week... and nobody noticed).

Time for Star 106.1, Superstars of the 80s and 90s. It would be a "gold-based AC" nowadays. And more people
would like it than you might think.

And more people would get tired of it faster than anything ever heard before. 96.5 The Point died 'cause it was the same tired songs over and over. Star went away, Alice left us, Mix died. Hot AC's (and any type of variation related to it) just don't work around here.

You guys are funny. You should all be in radio, doing mornings. :D

Why did'nt they just go with KISS 106 or 106.1 KISS FM ?? Too close to 101.7 KISS-FM?? or too many memories of KISS 100 ?? (although it has been well over 10 years and two formats ago) or just too much name competition/confusion with Q102.............this whole format flip of 106 and 104.5 was senseless......they basically screwed themselves over, especially with WJJZ popping up on 97.5 now.........and when are going to hear that WJJZ jingle again...you know......WJJZ......Ninety Seven point Fiiiihiiiiiive.

:) I LOVE THIS STATION DONT CHANGE A THING KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any one remember the short - lived "electric - charger 106" in roughly 1986 ? a present - day traffic guy was a d.j. on there back then ... ....

Yeah, Electric 106 was one of those things that you can't forget even if you try. Maybe the most entertaining part was the weather jingle. The DJs were fine, but seriously, the same song order hour after hour? Eagle 106 was a Godsend after Electric.

LONG LIVE THE ELECTRIC 106 WEATHER MIX! :)

The big top of the hour jingle was pretty cool, too.
